Argentine foreign minister Susana Malcorra has announced that Argentina has definitive international support for its defined continental shelf limits, with the exception of the Falklands/Malvinas, South Georgia, in dispute with the UK, and those covered by the Antarctic Treaty, which are not considered by the UN because of a sovereignty litigation or an international treaty. Well she may have choked a bit while doing it, but it's nice (if not miraculous) to see an Argentine diplomat speaking the truth...

    ”The fact that CLCS has stated that there is a sovereignty conflict, is another recognition of the existence of this conflict”

    Just like our resident 'Sociopath' here, always trying save face and claim the smallest of irrelevant victories, even when caught out telling lies and....ooohhh, what was it again.....oh yes '..telling aggrandizing porkies'.

    Will be interesting to see, after the maps are produced, when the first fishing dispute occurs. Because the CLCS determination applies only to the seabed and to any minerals it may contain, not to the water column above. It also does not give the GoA any further authority to harass innocent shipping.

    Well at least for perhaps the first time ever Argentina has accepted what it has - and what it does NOT have!

    Common sense really - if you legally own the territory you have sovereign rights over the territorial waters. Shame so many Argentinians were led up the garden path.

    So... 1,600 sq Kilometers, or.. 40km x 40km ... crikey, that's a bit of a step down from all those millions of sq KM they claimed under the Mad One.

    I wonder if the average Argentine now starts to realise how deluded their previous government was, and how much it simply lied about..well, pretty much everything.

    @Anbar
    It was this Argy Gov that claimed the UN had recognised their claims to the seabed in the S. Atlantic & Antarctica.

    The very same Susana Malcorra completely contradicting herself.

    With a straight face.

    Completely un-noticed by the rest of Argentina.

    Attention spans of Gold Fish.

    Although it would be expected as normal from any sane government, I guess the fact that Argentina are less frequently practising self denial is to be welcomed. Now their heads have been extracted from their favourite location, those heads can perhaps open their eyes and look at the whole history that relates to the Falklands rather than snippets of a letter the Duke of Wellington wrote. Try reading Pinedo. Try reading about Antonina Roxa.Try reading about the accounts of Royal Navy and sealing ships that operated around the Falklands long after 1774 and before 1833. And read all of the UN documents relating to the Falklands because cherry picking a few from the many has got you no where with your mythical claim.

    What has been granted to them by the UN should be regarded as a great resource. So Argies, don't waste any time being jealous of what the Falklands have done with their resources, that you claim, try developing your own resources, the amounts of which, most countries would welcome.
