Argentine court rules phoning the Falklands is a domestic call and 50% cheaper

A local tribunal from the Argentine northern province of Jujuy (bordering Bolivia) ruled against the telephone company for having billed a call to the Falklands/Malvinas Islands as international, “instead of domestic”, adding the ruling must be published in the largest circulation provincial and national dailies, pointing out that the phone link with the Islands must be charged as a domestic long distance.     Why on Earth would any Argentine want to phone the Falklands? They don't have anyone there to talk to, apart from a cemetery full of poor stiffs who died for nothing.

    Why didn't he see if skype or facetime was available or even send an e-mail ? Aren't they usually free ?
    If he's angry over being charged an international rate on the phone; Then I want to be the guy who stamps his passport when he lands on the Island.

    What a laugh! Arg phone companies will be charged the International call rates by the service provider - so they will be the guys who pay for the Arg Govt fantasy stupidity!

    I must give it a go next time I'm there. I remember paying local call rates for a call to the Islands about 15 years ago from a phone in a hotel in Patagonia.

    So after 35 years of licking its wounds, moaning and bleating to anybody who bothered to listen about its precious sovereignty, the best Argentina can do is persecute its own telecons who were doing the right thing and charging Argentines international rates for an international telephone call!

    No wonder the country is a basket case.
