China's Navy Wednesday launched a new 10,000-tonne domestically designed and produced destroyer. The vessel, of the Type 055 class, is the first of a new generation of destroyers equipped with new air defense, anti-missile, anti-ship and anti-submarine weapons, and it is regarded as a challenge to naval rivals in Asia. Jun 30th, 2017 - 02:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Quite a natty looking tub, but given that it's displacing more than almost all of the cruisers currently in service (4 x Slava class - 9,800-10,000 tons, 22+4 x Ticonderoga class - 9,600 tons, the only heavier cruiser is the one De Zeven Provinciën-class that Peru has - 12,040 tons) might calling it a Destroyer be something of nominative camoflage?
