The United Nations Security Council approved tough new sanctions on North Korea on Saturday including a ban on coal and other exports totaling more than US$1 billion — a huge bite in its total exports, valued at US$3 billion last year. Disclaimer & comment rulesUN sanctions are generally meaningless. Very few countries abide by them if it interferes with what they want to do, and I doubt they could prevent the North Koreans from continuing their weapons program if they were enforced. Nothing but force will stop this regime from becoming a real nuclear power.
