Spain uses the same flawed territorial integrity doctrine on Catalonia that she uses to deny that the people of Gibraltar have the right to self-determination. To take a look at this legal doctrine:-

    In the news:

In a surprise move, General Francisco Franco today apologised for the 4000-some catalans executed arbitrarily following the Spanish Civil War as a show of the power of the central government.....

“ Los fusilamientos dictados por el franquismo se caracterizaron por su planificación sistemática: «había que ejecutar arbitrariamente para demostrar el poder y la fuerza, para instaurar el terror hasta el muelle del hueso de la sociedad civil ”

Acabo de regresar de una breve visita a Málaga. Por los comentarios que se oían el pueblo no favorece la independencia de Cataluña PERO tampoco esta a favor de las acciones tomadas por el gobierno central.

Franquismo did such a good job of making the malagueños forget about the atrocities exacted against their residents that today you still find fascist falangists there singing Cara al Sol.

Franco is still alive in Málaga, and in much of Spain.

I was in Motril not so long ago, not so far from Málaga, in a sporting-goods shop. The owner had a rather unambiguous display of some Franco/Falangist material. I played along and he showed me his private office with more of it, and even gave me some nice little Franco paraphernalia pieces. For political correctness and to avoid confrontation with the violent leftist riffraff, many espanyols won't reveal their true sentiments in this respect, and only confess an approval of head-bashing to those of proven confidence. But Franco is very much still alive in the country, and there are many who wish for a return of franquismo to rid the country of the considerable leftist criminal element.

IF it is the WILL of the people - The MAJORITY/masses - the territory should be granted the freedom as it's their choice.
