The corpse found in Chubut River, in Argentine Patagonia, is Santiago Maldonado, it was confirmed late Friday by family members who recognized his body tattoos. Santiago lived in El Bolsón, a paradise for hippies in middle of Patagonia, precisely tattooing or living of small handicrafts in close contact with the Mapuche indigenous people who are in conflict with landowners and in recurrent clashes with security forces. The body had no signs of violence because he was never attacked. He drowned. A “friend” witnessed his disappearance and instead of calling for help, invented a story about a police attack which the anti-Macri crowd, including our own Reekie, swallowed hook, line and sinker and escalated into a series of protests in an attempt to influence the elections. The witness has now admitted he lied, he saw no police attack and is claiming the 2 million peso reward for telling police where to look to find the body. Why did he lie? Why did he wait so long to tell the police where the body might be? He saw an opportunity to advance his political agenda maybe?

If I am not mistaken, the media here have identified that lying “Witness E” who now is seeking the reward, as being an “ultra Kirchnerista.” That alone would explain the lying. And it looks as though this witness essentially abandoned Mr Santiasco to his fate in the river. That would be rather Kirchnerist as well.

There is now a long list of false witnesses looking at the possibility of being charged for their false testimony.

Now we're seeing that about 200 more Santiasco-wannabes spent a good part of today attacking the Gendarmería in El Bolsón (for those unfamiliar with our geography, that's the main town to the north of where the body was found). The police response was complicated because the hooligans were using children as human shields.

Argentina today is looking once again like a nation of fools, for having allowed themselves to be so convinced that the Gendarmería violently disappeared Mr Santiasco. In reality, he disappeared himself.

I think British_Kirchnerist is a contender in another thread “Bet Macri hopes more won't come out about how he ended up in that river or this victory might yet be an inaccurate guide to his chances of being re-elected or indeed of staying out of jail...”

Why would Macri would be hoping that more won't come out if he's shown to be completely innocent, the witness lied and Maldonado drowned because he tried to wade across a river even though he couldn't swim?

You are lying again, Gauchito Drink. There's a witness alright, he never revealed himself to the authorities, he told a couple of human rights lawyers, Fernando Cabaleiro and Carlos Maria González Quintana who had been interviewing witnesses who talked on guarantee of anonymity. The only thing your judge says is that as far as the authorities are concerned there is no witness, and from his point of view he never talked to one, but I doubt the lawyers were lying. You, on the other hand, most certainly are. :)

Below..., I link to an article in which the officer in command of the 17/10/17 river search..., Prefect Leandro Ruata and two other officers..., destroys the false stories of the Clarin newspaper about deep water holes..., murky waters and strong currents..., by declaring to the Judge that..., on that date..., the area on question had a maximum depth of 1.40 meters..., there were no ”deeper holes” in it... and that the very same area had already been searched before...
Furthermore..., they declared that on the previous searches of the 17/8/17 and on the 18/9/17 the depth of the river was no more than 1,00 meter..., that the water was almost transparent then and that the bottom could be easily seen..., even from the banks...

Argentine populists need a fresh martyr and Santiago Maldonado fits the bill. They have done their best to use him as their martyr. The jury is out on whether will o will not be that person.
Could they be behind his death?
