SECONDARILY - and also obviously - The South America NEEDS the direct liaison, transport, etc. facilities to quickly export - in response to the growing demands by the BIGGEST IMPORTER of drugs.
Obviously, The Base is THE Topmost-Priority Of Course!
It really wouldn't make much sense unless Trump was planning on eventually invading Venezuela, but he's not that crazy. Maybe instead it could be for protecting a group of luxury Trump resorts, but it seems overkill.

Judging from their [lack of] performance; against the not-so-latest Syrian, Iraqi, Afghani & of course the Vietnamese weaponry; the very well-equipped USA-Forces got raped thoroughly [but refuse to admit].
So imagine their fate against the Russians, Inarians, Chinese, etc. [the Chinese must be waiting patiently in the queue; for their turn to watch the chinese-cum oozing out of the ALL American hind]. Don't you think so too?

Even Temer gave the order to clean out quite a few petistas when he was named interim president (June 2016). An extremely necessary, and healthy measure. Confirmed by all major news outlets.
Some governors have even started their own purges, firing 1000s of petistas taken on by previous PT State governments. Besides eliminating those who'd pull in the wrong direction, humongous savings.
