President Donald Trump has walked out of a meeting with Democratic leaders as negotiations broke down on the 19th day of a US government shutdown. The Republican president ended talks after Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer stuck by their refusal to fund his planned US-Mexico border wall. Read full article

    One more example of POTUS acting like a child whose wishes are not granted and therefore throws a tantrum and stalks out the meeting in a huff.

    A total lack of respect not only for those present at the meeting, but to the country and even the rest of the world as a whole.

    Trump is playing the Democrat party like a violin. He's only focused on his voter base, not the left - much less the world.

    By the way, ...les déplorables have already figured out the EU is criminal...

    @Little J
    He only started the shutdown because Fox news criticised him. Ratings is all he cares about, not America.

    I know you both think I'm ignorant about foreign political affairs, but this has nothing to do about Fox News.

    To repeat an earlier comparison, President Trump is ruthlessly negotiating like Joachim von Ribbentrop against the modern day Democrat leadership equivalent to Neville Chamberlain. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are fighting a battle that they will eventually lose as their adversary is already running for the 2020 election and his strategy is to reignite his voter base.

    He'll force them to cave in or declare a national emergency, but he will win.

    @Chicureo
    Well, if you will do daft things like calling Temer a placeholder who did nothing significant...

    Trump had agreed to a budget with no wall funding, it was passed unanimously by the Senate, and then some Republican talking heads criticised him on Fox news and he suddenly changed his mind. He also said - with TV cameras rolling - that he owned the shutdown. Whoever wins this battle of wills (and the country loses either way), that's not good negotiating.

    And did you really intend to cast Trump as a Nazis in your little comparison? Most people would not be flattered.

    My gentle reminder is that gentile civilized polite negotiations don't work well when you're dealing with a ruthless maniac bent on winning at all costs.

    And yes, the British and French (Nancy and Chuck) are about to be nearly destroyed by the brutal Nazi obsession to win by Trump. He's taking no prisoners...

    It's America that is suffering from Trump's 'brutal Nazi obsession' (nice phrase!) If he was any good at negotiating he would have made a deal giving them DACA in exchange for wall funding, and millions of people would be doing their jobs rather than sitting at home wondering how to pay the bills.

    Also, I suspect the Democrats also have your Nazi analogy in mind, and that is why they are so unwilling to give in.

    From my other post as my response is similar:

    Don't you see it? The Trump shutdown was such a brilliant move in so many ways. It sucks the oxygen out of the news cycle totally. No time for Mueller, Democrats plotting impeachment, or 2020 election cycle antics. Democrats look like traitors by preferring illegals over citizens, which they are. I don’t even he wants the shutdown to end soon.

    Trump is a true B*STARD in bludgeoning people during negotiations. What does he lose, popularity with the liberal media? He's a madman on Twitter and bypasses their informational monopoly.

    If only May and her team had been as unpredictable, cunning, deceitful, brutal and vicious with the Eurocrats... I know... Impossible...

    I've heard the Brexit negotiations compared to trying to haggle with an ATM machine. It doesn't matter how unpredictable, cunning, deceitful, brutal and vicious you are, the machine still won't give you money you don't have. No red lines, no deal.

    Again, I admire the English, but you're too polite and civilized.

    Negotiation via the “brutal take no prisoners method” to successfully deal with an ATM machine is simple and effective.
