The world's oceans are heating up at an accelerating pace as global warming threatens a diverse range of marine life and a major food supply for the planet, researchers said on Thursday. The findings in the US journal Science, led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, debunk previous reports that suggested a so-called pause in global warming in recent years. Read full article

Don't link to fake news, Chicureo. If it wasn't for science we'd still be living in the dark ages, and if people start rejecting the very idea of evidence, they will go back to magical thinking and believing in utter nonsense. It's not harmless, and those people vote.
Jan 12th, 2019 - 11:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0If you encourage people to reject evidence it doesn't just affect this one issue, it ends up with them believing all kinds of harmful shit. Why do you think the world is so fucked up right now?
Undoubtedly the climate is changing. Why is a separate question...
Jan 12th, 2019 - 12:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So I just told my friends that I don't believe in free will and human consciousness is just like the software in a computer and any hardware failures (ie damage to the brain) will break it and stop it working properly. And I was met by a room full of horrified silence.

Jan 13th, 2019 - 05:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Several years ago, Al Gore actually told us here in Chile with overwhelming scientific evidence that the north polar ice cap would be completely melted by 2020. When I was a young man we were warned by scientists that the Earth was endangered by future global freezing... Google it up if you don't believe..

Jan 17th, 2019 - 10:49 am - Link - Report abuse +1REF: Why is a separate question:
The answer lies in the hands of the world renowned scientists, universities & research institutes [divided in their opinions] who - for some unfathomable reason/s - are unable to raise their united voice to convince the governments, UNO, WHO, etc [showing concrete proofs, beyond any doubts or counter-arguments] that the culprit is the human-race and also, what needs to be done to prevent a worldwide environmental catastrophe.
As The Change is slow, gradual & drastic; the countermeasures may also show their positive effect slowly & gradually - no instant, dramatic memedies.
This environmental BS is all about vegans trying to radically change our eating habits...
Jan 17th, 2019 - 06:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Paris (AFP) - The way humanity produces and eats food must radically change to avoid millions of deaths and catastrophic damage to the planet, according to a landmark study published Thursday.
The key to both goals is a dramatic shift in the global diet -- roughly half as much sugar and red meat, and twice as many vegetables, fruits and nuts, a consortium of three dozen researchers concluded in The Lancet, a medical journal.
We are in a catastrophic situation, co-author Tim Lang, a professor at the University of London and policy lead for the EAT-Lancet Commission that compiled the 50-page study, told AFP.
