The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth has not been deterred by activists’ and local leaders’ calls to disinvite Brazil’s controversial president, Jair Bolsonaro, from a speaking event on Thursday. Bolsonaro will be accompanied by a cadre of Brazilian politicians and will meet with business executives from across Texas, the U.S. and Brazil, said Jim Falk, the council branch’s president and CEO. ”Jorge Baldor, chair of the World Affairs Council of Dallas and Fort Worth, on Wednesday, May 15, contradicted earlier reports, saying that he and his organization had nothing to do with an invitation extended to homophobic and misogynistic Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to come to Dallas this week.
    “He invited himself,” Baldor said of Bolsonaro’s trip to Dallas.
    Baldor explained that World Affairs Council has a contract with the city of Dallas to host foreign dignitaries. He also said there is no public forum planned, and that Bolsonaro will attend a private lunch with private individuals.
    “He is not getting an award,” Baldor said, contradicting earlier reports that Bolsonaro was coming to Dallas to accept an award from the Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce after venues in New York City refused to host the award ceremony there, and New York Mayor Bill De Blasio refused to participate in any event with Bolsonaro.
    “World Affairs Council did not issue an invitation,” Baldor said. “I personally did not issue an invitation. I do not want him here.”

    REF: “disinvite” the Brazilian leader:

    Why “disinvite”? Isn't he supporting the US policies? Like the US, he too is against many issues, isn't it?

    @Chicureo
    I noticed due to all the terrified Americans. Must be horrible living in a country where the government is always trying to take away your rights.
