Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's cell phones were allegedly targeted by a group of hackers who are also accused of breaching the devices of the investigators in a massive corruption probe, the justice ministry said on Thursday. Read full article
The arrest this Tuesday, July 23rd, of four alleged perpetrators of hacking into Minister Moro's cell phone, predicted by Glenn Greenwald last week as a false flag operation, raised suspicions that the Federal Police operation could be an attempt to stifle the publication of messages by The Intercept Brasil, which have cast doubt on the Impartiality of Lava Jato.
In his Twitter account, Intercept editor Leandro Demori said that a ruthless and unscrupulous portion of law enforcement is plotting a farce and an attack on the freedom of the press in Brazil. Rafael Moro Martins, another editor of the Intercept website, posted on his social media network that he had information that the Federal Police was planning an attempt to discredit the authenticity of the material a few days ago.
The purpose is so obvious that it names the operation, says Martins, in reference to the term Spoofing. According to the police, spoofing is a kind of tech falsification seeking to trick a network or a person into believing that an information source is reliable when it is not.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald also went online to reinforce the authenticity of the messages disclosed by the Intercept: And who are the prosecutors of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office who confirmed to [newspapers] Correio Braziliense and El Pais that the conversations are authentic? Also, how did [newspaper] Folha de S.Paulo and [the magazine] Veja confirm their authenticity? Moreover, [website] BuzzFeed Brazil? And Barroso today. There is a mountain of evidence to prove that they are real, Greenwald posted.
The media outlets quoted by the journalist also reported the leaks, they had confirmed their authenticity. https://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/brazil/politics-brazil/arrest-of-four-vaza-jato-leaks-hacker-suspects-by-federal-police-raises-new-questions/
Good news for Moro; maybe he could use the material recovered from the hackers to prove Glenn doctored the messages? Except he ordered all the evidence destroyed... funny, that.
He also found time to pass a law allowing for the summary deportation of foreigners, and one of the politicians from Bozo's party tried to use a dictatorship-era law to censor the Intercept. Totally normal reaction to the publication of messages that 'don't show anything wrong'...
”Who Glenn Greenwald is, and what drives him to criticize the excesses of the Lava Jato program.
First of all, he is a U.S. citizen and a U.S.-trained lawyer. He knows the canons of Anglo-Saxon common law and believes in their efficacy. One of the absolute principles of this law is that courts and judges should not—indeed: they must not—act as crusaders.
The only role of the courts is to decide cases and controversies, based on evidence submitted in court by lawyers for the parties. This is the essence of the adversarial system of justice, which was knowingly adopted by Brazil’s 1988 Constitution.
A corollary principle is that lawyers are prohibited from speaking privately to a judge without opposing counsel also being present (an “ex parte communication”) in relation to any matter that may affect the outcome of the case.
These two ethical principles are inculcated into all U.S. lawyers, starting in law school; lawyers are taught that ethical violations compromise the entire system of justice, not just individual litigants.
The published Vaza Jato leaks indicate that judge Sérgio Moro engaged in numerous ex parte communications with prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol; they further indicate that Moro independently suggested that prosecutors investigate certain facts.
Glenn Greenwald clearly believes that the Vaza Jato leaks demonstrate two ethically improper actions by Judge Moro, which together amount to collusion between judge and prosecutors.: (1) he acted as an investigating “crusading judge”; and (2) he engaged in prohibited “ex parte” communications with prosecutors.
The Curmudgeon respectfully submits that Glenn Greenwald is correct.” https://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/brazil/opinion-in-defense-of-glenn-greenwald-or-vaza-jato-vs-lava-jato/
Which is exactly what I have claimed from the get-go. That there is something very wrong with this judge, and I have been proved correct.
Hacking is a serious crime and MUST be punished, isn't it?
Once hacked, there is no limit on which information can be stolen. The hacked-contents can be used by hackers for ANY purpose. THAT's what makes hacking dangerous & a crime!
Once the hacked contents are spread around, there is NO control on how widely/wildly the information can be spread and who is going to use it for what purpose and in what manner!
Besides, to be fair; the hackers can be hacked too!
Should it be established that Moro was involved with the Prosecution, his rulings could be
overturned, including the Lula lawsuit which is under consideration by the Federal Supreme Court.
Article 254 of the Code of Criminal Procedure states that “the judge shall pronounce himself or herself suspect, otherwise he or she may be recused by either party” if “he or she has advised either party”.
Furthermore, Article 564 states that sentences handed down by suspect judges may be overturned. https://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/brazil/moro-advises-officials-that-hacked-messages-seized-will-conveniently-be-destroyed/

It's noted you've turned on your apologist.
As judge, Sergio Moro was the epitome of what lawfare is all about: to use the judicial power to achieve means that in past times were achieved by military force.
Moro carried out a gong show of a trial that ended up with Lula, the most powerful candidate in the recent presidential election behind bars, allowing for the triumph of Bolsonaro; next, Bolsonaro justly rewards Moro with the justice ministry.
Now that his highly unlawful practices have been revealed, the logic response from the Bolsonaro-Moro strong alliance is to shoot the messenger -- in this case, well-known, awarded journalist Glenn Greenwald.
Since the scandal was first revealed, two of main Brazil media outlets Veja and Folha de Sao Paulo have begun to publish Greenwald's stories as well.
The truth doesn't care about our needs or wants. It doesn't care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait, for all time. And this, at last, is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of truth, now I only ask: What is the cost of lies?
... Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid.

Reminds me of what happens when 'elites' control a government at the expense of 'free elections' and 'individuals rights'. It is no longer a democracy, but a de facto dictatorship.
In a 2006 interview, Mr Gorbachev said: “The nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl 20 years ago this month, even more than my launch of Perestroika, was perhaps the real cause of the collapse of the Soviet Union five years later.”

Now, on that point, some have argued that the fact that these text messages may have been obtained illegally (possibly by hackers, though this has not yet been definitively established) means that the messages may not be used by a defendant, such as Lula, to challenge his conviction on the basis of judicial partiality. This is incorrect. The alleged unlawfulness in obtaining the messages does not prevent them from being used in favor of the defendant to prove a lack of judicial impartiality.
The principal reason, as the STF case law has explained, is that the greater constitutional relevance of individual freedom in the face of the prohibition to use illegal evidence justifies the admissibility of unlawfully obtained evidence in favor of the defendant (see STF, HC 75261, Rapporteur Justice Octavio Gallotti, First Panel, 06/24/1997, and STF, RE 212081, Rapporteur Justice Octavio Gallotti, First Panel, 12/05/1997).” https://globalanticorruptionblog.com/2019/07/02/do-the-lava-jato-leaks-show-illegal-or-unethical-behavior-a-debate-between-brazilian-legal-experts/#more-14273
A petition of lawyers and lawyers with more than 800 accessions defends press freedom and suggests the removal of Sergio Moro from the post of Minister of Justice.
The document alleges, among other things, that the former judge is acting out of bounds in the case of the investigation of hackers arrested last week on charges of tapping the minister himself and several other authorities.
Lawyers say Moro behaves in the case “as a police chief, who directs police inquiry, inspector and police, who directly conducts investigative acts, as prosecutor, selecting what he understands should be evidence, and as judge, acting about the destruction of information ”.
Last week Moro called several authorities to report that they too had been hacked. Folha revealed that he still stated in the talks that the intercepted dialogues would be destroyed - which only the judge of the case could decide.
“At the extreme opposite to democracy and the rule of law is the state of exception, whose concept is simple: the ruler decides the exception, precisely because it does not submit to any control, a political power above the legal that decides when the right should or should not be applied, ”says the undersigned. “We will not give up democracy, the defense of the Constitution and rights,” he emphasizes. https://blogdacidadania.com.br/2019/07/oitocentos-advogados-pedem-saida-de-moro-da-justica/
But despite their aggressive efforts, Moro and his defenders have been unable to obtain any evidence to support their insinuations that The Intercept did anything in this matter other than exercise our right to practice journalism, which is guaranteed and protected by the Brazilian Constitution.
At the end of last week, after Brazil’s Federal Police had announced the arrests, they released what they called the “confession” of the person they claim is the principal hacker who provided us with this material, Walter Delgatti Neto. After being interrogated for hours and allegedly “confessing” to the hacking, Delgatti Neto said in his official police statement that:
He never spoke to any Intercept reporter until he had already completed his hacking;
he never requested or received any payment from The Intercept (or any other party) for providing the documents;
He only spoke to The Intercept anonymously;
He never altered any of the chats he provided to us and does not believe that it would be technically possible to have altered the chats given how he downloaded them from Telegram; and his claimed motive for obtaining and leaking these documents was inspired by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden: To Improve His Country By Exposing Hidden Corruption That The Public Had The Right To Know.
Because we have not only the right but the duty — under both the Constitution in Brazil and the code of ethics that governs our profession — to protect our sources, we have not and will not comment on the individuals accused by the Federal Police of having hacked into Telegram accounts and then providing information to our journalists. https://theintercept.com/2019/07/28/bolsonaro-attacks-show-why-reporting-on-secret-brazil-archive-is-vital/
