“Thirty years since the Madrid Treaty: rethinking a new national strategy for Malvinas”, was the heading of the conference held in the extreme south Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego with the participation of the governor, Rosana Bertone, former foreign minister Jorge Bielsa, and the Malvinas Question related affairs Secretary, Jorge Arguello a diplomat and one of possible foreign minister names if the opposition candidate Alberto Fernandez wins the presidential election this month. Perhaps we ought to go along with TdF's mad plans and tear up the '99 Agreement. We'll bring in more protection vessels to aid the trawlers and stop S. American piracy, guard the oil-rigs and no longer stop off in Argentina with LATAM. Of course, this may cause a bit of a problem with veterans from Argentina getting to the Falkland Islands but you don't make omelettes without breaking a few eggs.
Dear old Rosana bangs on about being our true governor but she never responds to emails or tweets and she has never visited. She ought to be happy for us, with our economy and everything.

    Repudiate Herr Think?

October 19th, a joint statement is issued at the conclusion of the negotiations; agreeing: that hostilities between Britain and Argentina have ceased; the resumption of consular relations; the creation of a working group to consider measures for building confidence and avoiding military incidents; the Protection Zone to be aligned with the Conservation Zone; the lifting of all remaining restrictions between the two countries; Air and sea links
to reopen; and the creation of a working group to consider issues surrounding fishing.

“The two Governments noted that all hostilities between them had ceased. Each Government undertook not to pursue any claim against the other, including nationals of
the other, in respect of loss or damage arising from the hostilities and all other action in and
around the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands before 1989.”

Would that include unaccepting that hostilities over? Would that include the UK commencing compensation claims against the Argentine Government for the costs of the war?

Have you thought this through Think?

What a sad lot we have to live alongside in this modern world. Argentina is still war mongering and cannot accept that they were firmly defeated in their act of aggression in 1982.
When will they ever start accepting that we the Falkland Island people are going nowhere and accept that we have as much if not more right to live and develope our own economy without the persistent threats from a neighbour that today still wants to steal our sovereign rights.
That is why we can never again trust them.
Britain may have agreed to better relations with Argentina but because Argentina refuses to accept we Falklan Islanders exist I p

The only aggression that had been initiated, and continues to proffered is by Argentina.
“Secretary Haig notes; “It appears that fighting on the Falklands has ended. However, Argentina will not renounce its claim to the Islands. Unless Argentina and the United Kingdom agree on a permanent solution, a future resumption of fighting cannot be ruled out.”

    Juppppp..., copper...

If your Engrish pirates want to commence hostilities and stick your pinkish Willy in that dead pigs mouth.., be my guest...

If your Engrish pirates also want to stick your pinkish Willy in that hornet's nest and commence compensation claims against the Argentinean Government for the costs of the Malvinas conflict..., be my guest...

Both would be quite functional for our claim..

You appear to have some hang-up with pinkish willies Old Man. Is that a sexual fantasy thing? Though you were passed such nonsense.

How would either be 'functional' for your spurious claim?

Britain ceased hostilities in 1982. It was Argentina that continued with them until 1989. If Argentina repudiates the 1989 declaration then it will be Argentina that is reopening hostilities. Still, in these times of political chaos, a Tory Leader might appreciate a distraction.

As for compensation, I've always suspected that the UK not pursuing same was the quid pro quo for no more UN Resolutions. It was that 1989 agreement that brought the UN GA Resolutions to a halt was it not? 30 years with no UN GA involvement. Argentina must have been expecting a really big bill ;-)

“a humonguous lot more worth that an Engrishman's word...” If that was true you would be able to show where. Apparently it's a lot reliable than any Argentine word. Since the US has complained from Adam's to US chargé d'affaires Francis Baylies who wrote about Argentina in 1832 “...The revolutions of these people are seditious; their knowledge. chicanery and trickery; their patriotism, their liberty, a farce... ”
Baylies held that the US should sign no treaty ...for we would abide by it, and they would consider the violation no greater offense than a lie told by a schoolboy...”

While to the present time Argentina is in still in breach of the UN Charter.

Keep their word? The land of viveza criolla?

1832 July 24th, US Envoy Baylies, writes to Secretary Livingston in a letter. Previously authorised to negotiate a commercial treaty if appropriate, Baylies states that he opposes the notion.

“… for we should abide by it, and they would consider the violation of a treaty no greater offence than a lie told by schoolboy. With the Bey of Tripoli or the Emperor of Morocco we might for a time maintain unviolated the provisions of a Treaty but with these people if a temporary advantage could be gained they would violate a treaty on the day of its ratification.”

Unilateral action is legal within your own territory Think, and the Falklands are in ours - not yours. Oh, and please do not waste your time quoting long-dead UN GA Resolutions. The GA have had nothing to say in 30 years despite there being an opportunity for any Member to raise the subject at any time. Argentina is still a member? No? Possibly not, I see Argentina still has not paid its 2019 dues ;-)

“One is never too auld to learn something new.”
So you are unable to refute that Argentina is both completely untruthful and unreliable in her international dealings, as I have proved.
Argentina is in still in breach of the UN Charter. So you have not a single fact to support your claim.
So like all losers you fall back on the old argumentum ad hominem.
