The Chilean government established on Friday night a state of national emergency in the capital Santiago and surrounding areas following extensive arson, rioting and looting in the city by students protesting transport fares, particularly subway fares, which are considered among the most expensive in the region. The Mercopress journalist does not understand what's really happening here. Last night President Piñera declared a national emergency and we have the army on the streets, but the violence continues to escalate.

    What the journalist did not explain is Chile now has one of the highest costs in producing electricity due to us adopting progressive policies to switch over for wind and solar production, which has proven to be outrageously expensive.

    A significant destruction due to this anarchy has severely paralyzed Santiago.

    @Chicureo

    This piece must be incomplete but fortunately a number of other reporters have clarified the oil price related rising costs that Chile is going through.

    Some quick math also would let anybody realize that an increase of 4 USD cents is absolutely no reason to destroy the city.

    I see a black hand trying to cause chaos throughout S.A.

    Hang on in there friend.

    The government really misjudged the anger over the increase of transport, electricity and too many youth unemployed. Parts of the city are now without electrical power and there has been uncontrolled looting throughout. Protesters are emboldened because they know the soldiers don't want to kill anyone.
    There are fires still being set at this hour...

    @Chicureo

    Nobody likes increasing prices. I'm not trying to justify the government.

    I have seen a few videos of Santiago yesterday and it scared me. This is not just a student's protest. People burning buses and posing proud in the scene?

    I celebrate that the soldiers do not want to kill anybody.

    Thanks for your concern. The US dollar strength is being reflected in higher prices, but also a substantial rise in utilities costs. Unemployment and especially youth unemployment is untenable.

    Your view is fairly similar to mine, except you missed the same sources claim our ex-President hasn't paid taxes either. (Both cases of tax evasion are misleading propaganda... As they both used legal loopholes to defer payments.)
    You missed the very serious problem of unemployment due to a very large number of immigrants willing to work at low wages, especially the Hatians who gladly work for far less wages than everyone else. (They're very nice people, but they are infuriating to the traditional workforce here.)

    What no one wants right now is people getting shot...

    Those above ain't “my views”..., hermanito...
    That is a tweet I got from a typical “roto clase media” from Curicó, Shile...
    One of the many, many “rotos clase media” rioting on the streets as we speak...
    Not many “rotos clase baja” aka proletarians on the streets......................................, yet...

    By the way...
    Unemployment in Shile is exacerbated by the many Haitians and Venezuelans...huhhh....
    Do as our magnificent Neo-Liberal ruling class does here in Argentina..., ché...:
    Declare loud and clear tbat all those foreigners that gladly work for peanuts prove two things...:
    1) That Shilean rotos are lazy as hell and don't want to work..., just parasite on the State...
    2) That Shilean mimimum wages are way to high and must be immediately reduced to allow our belowed Shile compete in the globalized world...

    Simples..., don't you Think...?

    Think,

    You are always confusing things. It's the left style. Can't blame you for that.

    So the subject was Chile and you somehow brought it back to Argentina. And so you specifically state that the Chilean middle class is protesting, soon to be joined by the proletariat.

    Do you enjoy this chaos just because it serves your twisted view of reality?

    Do you want more chaos as if what's currently happening wasn't bad enough for everyone in Santiago?

    Do you celebrate the destruction of public property?

    Is violence the solution?

    Simple enough huh?
