Things are continuing to escalate in several parts of my country. Our beautiful Metro system was effectively destroyed yesterday and looting as well as arson of several businesses continue. Soldiers are deployed, but no one is being shot yet.

What the heck is going on in Chile? Seems like this must have been building up for a while, from the reaction. And the BBC said the President called the protesters criminals and managed to rile them up even more.

Are you and your family safe, Chicureo?

Chicureo, there are now murders being committed by the “rioters.” I truly hope you and yours are safe, but as Tarquin pointed out, there is a dark hand moving over Latin America...

A completely different view of president Sebastián Piñera's “War” declaration...:

    He said...:
***“Estamos en guerra contra un enemigo poderoso, implacable, que no respeta a nada ni a nadie...”***
(We are at War against a powerful enemy..., an implacable one that doesn't respect anything or anybody.)

    I say...:
IF he is referring to those thousands and thousands of teenager boys and gals in their Engrish styled school uniforms..., that with their effective and innovative...: “EVASIONES MASIVAS” of last week waked up the numb PTSD stricken grown up population of my beloved Shile.., and triggered the present situation............

    Then he is right...,
He IS INDEED at War against a powerful enemy..., an implacable one that doesn't respect anything or anybody...:
    THE TEENAGERS...

    Rest my case...

    Chicureo:

“Soldiers are deployed, but no one is being shot yet.”

Well. Doesn't it sounds like a self-fulfilling prophesy? The dead count is now reaching 19 at least according to The Guardian.

Chicureo appears also worried by “our beautiful Metro system was effectively destroyed...”

No doubt property destruction is regrettable. Those who have died or got seriously hurt by police and armed forces actions have lost the chance of worrying about those material losses.

For Piñera, the dead and injured may amount to “collateral damage” at most.
