Brazil registered a record number of daily deaths from the novel coronavirus for a second consecutive day, according to Health Ministry data released on Wednesday, even as city and state authorities move aggressively to open commerce back up.

The nation recorded 1,349 new coronavirus deaths on Wednesday and 28,633 additional confirmed cases, the data showed. Brazil has now registered 32,548 deaths and 584,016 total confirmed cases.

Latin America as a whole has emerged as the world's worst coronavirus hotspot, with nations like Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Panama also grappling with massive caseloads.

Mexico also set a new record of 1,092 coronavirus deaths on Wednesday, with cases there blasting past 100,000.

In Brazil, right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the virus, saying on Tuesday that death was “everyone's destiny”.

State and local authorities that have supported quarantining measures are loosening restrictions as hunger grows and public finances, shaky in the best of times, plummet deep into the red.

In Rio de Janeiro, the nation's second-largest city, many types of shops were allowed to open for the first time in months on Tuesday.

”In Brazil, right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the virus, saying on Tuesday that death was 'everyone's destiny'”.

This man has already caused unprecedented sufferance and death among Brazilians and doesn't show any signs of wanting to stop.

Jair Bolsonaro's tragic presidency is to blame on conservatives forces waging lawfare on popular candidate Lula Da Silva to prevent his likely triumph in the last election. They sought the most rightist available candidate -- and they got him in Palácio do Planalto

The results are for all to see.

    Enrique:

Bolsonaro is not that stupid; he knows what he is doing. He wishes that the covid-19 pandemic will kill ~ 6 million poor people in order to relieve the economic demand on the state. It is the same thing in Argentina with the residual Pro. They believe that if we loose 6 million poor Argentines, we become a first world nation.

In the 1920's Argentina was among the 5th richest countries in the world with a population of ~ 12 million people. We never had a population growth control like most European countries. It was called WWI, WWII, and others. Germany, for example, has a population of ~ 80+ millions. Would Germany be so affluent with a population of ~150 millions?

What these monsters do not understand that a completely out of control pandemic will not kill just 6 million; it would be more like 15-20 millions. Besides being something morally worse than Nazi Germany, that would catapult Argentina into the middle ages.

Those are the monsters the we have to live with!

PS: I hope they won't erase my message, again.
