The first Saab F-39E Gripen fighter arrived on a ship in the port of Navegantes, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, on 20 September. A surprising choice as at the time the Brazilians were talking a lot about the “blue Amazon”, I half expected them to buy F18s or at least something with a longer range and heavier payload than these Gripens have.

Swedish military thinking says the Russians will first attack their airfields, these Gripens can land, refuel and rearm then take off from almost any stretch of motorway.
Some 30% of the Aircraft (by value) are British made systems, so we have done very well out of this.
