The Argentine government has criticized the successful eleven-year demining process in the Falkland Islands arguing it is a new “violation” of a UN resolution calling on both sides, UK and Argentina, to abstain from any unilateral action in the disputed territories. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesThe best remedy for Argentina's participation in the de-mining project would be to allow them to pay for all the de-mining work and pay all compensation for destroyed machinery, dead sheep, etc, killed by landmines.
Nov 12th, 2020 - 10:45 am - Link - Report abuse +10How much have they contributed so far?
The stark reality is that Argentina violated the geneva convention by laying the mines in the first place. This is just another way to try and get their false claim aired.
Nov 12th, 2020 - 10:54 am - Link - Report abuse +13If Argentina had been a decent genuine neighbour and not violated the law by invading in 1982 there would have been no mines to remove.
We Islanders have finally had another remnant of that illegal conflict removed and once again we are proving to the world that Argentina is still the aggressor as clearly shown in this statement they have made.
The Falkland Islands have prospered and grown since 1982 and even though Argentina still puts embargos on us to try and impede the growth they have all failed.
The reason they are failing to enforce these embargos is that the rest of the world don't agree with the Argentine actions and continue to trade with the Falkland islands people.
They are cutting their own noses of to spite their own faces by acting like they are.
Look at all the potential lost trade they have bestowed upon themselves through their greed.
Looking forward to the next 38 years of development now we are mine free.
We have but one remaining task to do and that is repatriate all the Argentine war dead so that their families can finally get the closure they have been denied. Could take another 38 years to achieve but one day that will happen I am sure.
However in 2009, and with “no previous warning” the UK did not comply with the commitments agreed and “illegitimately” started mine clearance activities on its own without the participation of Argentina in “a clear act of violation”.
Nov 12th, 2020 - 12:10 pm - Link - Report abuse +9Was this idiot born stupid or has he just had a lot of practice.
There must be sensible people in Argentina who squirm with embarrassment when they read their government’s hypocritical rants.
Nov 12th, 2020 - 02:05 pm - Link - Report abuse +9I have for years had my doubts about Filmus' mental health.
Nov 12th, 2020 - 02:09 pm - Link - Report abuse +9Now they have been confirmed.
Typical behaviour from the lawless UK, a rogue state that does not respect laws or international agreements. They simply cannot be trusted and, indeed, are also breaking the law in their disastrous Brexit negotiations with the EU. The current Prime Minister is a serial liar and totally untrustworthy. Check out all his false promises to everybody from EU countries to the British people. Not only that he even refused to provide food for poor families children during the pandemic whilst he and his cabinet gorged on food and alcohol in their fancy London restaurants. Argentina needs to walk away from this basket case country and the UN should impose sanctions on them for such lawless behaviour. I can only imagine the worry the Malvina's people must have right now and Argentina welcomes you with open arms and will support you in your struggle against the London regime.
Nov 13th, 2020 - 07:00 am - Link - Report abuse -9Filmus was a lightweight at the negotiations in ‘99, a lightweight in the Kirchener Governments, and is a lightweight now. He seems to lack any sense of when to speak and when to keep his mouth shut. Here was a chance to celebrate a humanitarian advance, and all he can do is whinge. It is good for us they do not have anybody with more sense and more guile.

Nov 13th, 2020 - 11:10 am - Link - Report abuse +6Well said, Mike. It is amazing that the Argies keep putting their feet in it, diplomatically speaking, but what else can they do? They have no claims and no grounds for their claims so they resort to desperate sound bites for domestic consumption.
Nov 13th, 2020 - 11:17 am - Link - Report abuse +7I often wonder what the Argentinians under 30 years old (or even 40) actually think about the whole campaign over the Falklands - unless the school brainwashing continues, maybe the younger generation really don't care. (Hope your cats are well!).
Another sign the Argentine economy is desperate.
Nov 13th, 2020 - 11:33 am - Link - Report abuse +2The Falkland Islands is simply to defocus the population from their government's economic incompetence
The Falkland Islands is simply to defocus the population from their government's economic incompetence - totally agree. Brexit is an unmitigated economic disaster. The UK has become a third world basket case banana republic where the rule of law is actively undermined by the Johnson government

Nov 13th, 2020 - 07:06 pm - Link - Report abuse +3Even if Brexit was a disaster (it isn't), the UK is still richer, and more capable than the cowardly, poverty stricken Argentina
hahaha - similar to the last words of the captain of the titanic. The word in diplomatic circles is that the UK is begging Argentina to take care of the malvinas. Argentina stands ready to help the islanders but will not support a bail out of UK finances. You mase your brexit mess and you need to fix it. basket case of europes needs support from argentina - hahaha

Amigos/as de las Malvinas - Argentina will not use military force (we are a socialist peace-loving nation) to win you over but rather we will fill your hearts with love, beauty, and art. Come visit us in Buenos Aires, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the Paris of South American if you like. We will share our beautiful culture and Argentinian bonhomie and we will learn of the Malvinas cultural offerings too. We know you are a beautiful people, our brothers, and sisters and together we are stronger and don't allow the UK to divide us. We will help you during the Brexit meltdown storm and give you free access to our healthcare and pensions system. Your destiny is safe with your Argentinean family

Nov 14th, 2020 - 07:26 am - Link - Report abuse +3Except you're not peace loving. You invaded the Falkland Islands. Perhaps to show your desire for peace you would drop your colonislist territorial claims. Like the disputed Misiones Province and all the disputed lands south of the Pilcomayo River and habd them back to Paraguay?
Argentina planned a war of aggression against Chile abd sent troops to the border in Patagonia.
You're just sore we gave you bully boys a good kicking
Argentina is socialist peace and love country. We dont believe in violencia and only peace for all. Hugs and big kisses to all our brothers and sisters in malvinas
Nov 14th, 2020 - 07:32 am - Link - Report abuse -5I’ve never heard of these “Malvinas” in the South Atlantic, I only know the Falkland Islands, a proudly British archipelago that wishes to remain with Britain in peace
Nov 14th, 2020 - 01:13 pm - Link - Report abuse +3Britain is bankrupt and cannot support the malvinas anymore and have offered the islands to Argentina. We are discussing the details but we will not take them back at any price.

Fito Garcia. Everything you have said is a load of rubbish and you know it.
Nov 15th, 2020 - 01:55 am - Link - Report abuse +2Argentina can never again be trusted by Falkland Islanders and you want to know why. Because your lot invades us and that was an unforgivable act. All your wooing wont make us change our minds.
Who would want to be a part of the most debt ridden country in south America.
Poverty at an all time high.
Your economy is finished and you say you would care for us . Dream on you cant even care for yourselves.
But it's not to late to stop the rot. Just drop your illegal sovereignty claim and you may start to get the world recognition you so desperately need to drag you out of this economical crises you are in.
Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982, the Islanders became prisoners in their own homes, their Islands were flooded with Argentine conscript soldiers and the impedimenta of war. Then the Argentine engineers turned the Falkland Islands into a land of mines.
Nov 15th, 2020 - 10:13 am - Link - Report abuse +3The Argentine government refused to comply with a UN Security Council Resolution to withdraw its army from the Falklands and during the subsequent war over one thousand soldiers and civilians on both sides were killed. They had to be forcefully removed from the Islands.
Before the war and since, Argentina has at various time gone out of its way to embargo and persecute the Islanders. Shamefully, Argentina argues to the UN that the Falkland Islanders are not entitled to self determination because the Islanders are not 'a people'. This sinister argument is reminiscent of the Nazi quest for living space and the 'final solution'.
But apologists for Argentina's aggression claim that Argentina is a 'peaceful' country. Some peace!
Filmus is a creepy Kircherite failure whose only achievements are losing in every election he ever stood in.

Nov 16th, 2020 - 03:56 pm - Link - Report abuse -3Most important on the above linked G-77 plus China UN Group declaration in Argentinas favour is the following...:
*** Specific allusion to unilateral activities of exploration and EXPLOITATION of renewable AND NON-RENEWABLE NATURAL RESOURCES in illegally occupied Argentine maritime spaces...***
As we all know..., the Engrish Pirate Oil Adventure in occupied South Atlantic waters has died a (for them Engrish Private Investors...) very painful death...
Now..., with this renewed UN Group backing..., is time for us Argies to initiate legal action against all those Spanish Fishing Companies that carelessly have invested in the Engrish Pirate Squid Adventure in occupied South Atlantic waters...
This legal action is facilitated and runs..., of course..., in paralell with the current Malvinexit Process and the new fees and tariffs applicable to non EU fish...
Capisce..?
NON-RENEWABLE NATURAL RESOURCES in illegally occupied Argentine maritime spaces...
Nov 16th, 2020 - 05:32 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Wouldn't count on to much help as you'd have to wait for your ship to come in. Pity you sunk it.
Oh now why I think of that, all Argentina has to do is obtain an appropriate writ of eviction. That is after the authorised court is satisfied that her claim is valid.
