Argentina and Uruguay ladies love and celebrate the Falklands

Friday, August 27th 2021 - 08:15 UTC
Full article 37 comments

Ladies support for the Falkland Islands in the River Plate is expanding. As happened just a few weeks ago in Buenos Aires when two historians, one of them with an international reputation, acknowledged the Falklands belong to the Falkland Islanders and doubt Argentina's claim, in Uruguay a member from a ruling coalition junior party last 14 August twitted the hashtag “HappyFalklandsDay”. The Malvinistas are nervous. Therefore they will create new laws against this. People will be imprisoned for telling the truth. A dictatorship disguised as a democracy.

Swede, Steve, nobody is nervous. Argentina believe it or not, are and were very anglophile. And it have had always people with a pro-british view regarding anything. Even a town raised a “falklands” flag in a 2 of april.
The Malvinas situation, as we all know, its a very sensitive topic for us argentines. But besides that, we are a democracy where people are free to express their opinions. Nobody went to jail for expressing their pro-british view regarding the islands. Nobody went to jail even for raising an illegal flag in an official building and even people were voted assuming their pro-british view.
The same situation happens in Britain, where there are lots of people in the streets that really believes the islands are argentines and should be transferred to Argentina right away. Or those who think the UK should negotiate sovereignty, many of them are journalists, or polititians.
The difference is in the colonial regime, where you dont have that freedom and are not alowed to show the argentine flag or any shirt or clothes with the argentine flag colours.

Most People in the UK under 40 don`t know where the Falklands are let alone care that Argentina Try`s to claim them as there own. As far as the Politicians are concerned the Falklands are a British Overseas Territory that has freely decided to be part of the UK.

You discuss about the open society of Argentina — perhaps you then could explain why enraged Argentines chased Jeremy Clarkson and his Top Gear crew team out of Argentina?

I do however agree that Argentines are certainly anglophiles…

Chicureo, I dont know him or its show, i saw one of his show in youtube becouse of the incident. However, he do not seems to care our views or the history or the subject. He came muffing with winning a war in 1982 for what their plates said. He got quite a few incidents in Mexico, Peru and India also, if i recall correctly.
Nevertheless, how an anglophile nation can enraged to a team of british making a show in Argentina?. How many british music bands have came here even when the war was recently ended, showing the british flags without any problem?. How many british came to live or work in Argentina?. Just to mention Roger Water came like 3 times with a full stadium, the same with the Rolling Stones, etc.

“I do however agree that Argentines are certainly anglophiles…”. Dont be jelouse, i think you are a lot more anglophile than us. May be the war took them 3 point out in our hearts.

I remember in the late 70s playing Rugby against your rival St George's College in Buenos Aires — and we won with one conversion kick. Instead of being cordially congratulated — the team refused to shake hands.

(Our coach reminded us that the all important Argentinian EGO was bruised and they were resentful of our narrow victory.)

During that period — your country was planning the attack against our country until the Vatican interceded and stopped the war!

Because of your county’s belligerence my country’s Naval academy offered me a scholarship and I am gratefully thankful that my parents were not encumbered with the costs of university.

As far as “being more anglophile” — only when it comes to manners and cordiality — but you cannot deny your people are mostly Calabrese Italians that speak a stranger dialect of castellano than ourselves — think they live like Englishmen and have the contemptible arrogance of the French.

I’ve greatly enjoyed your country — but remain thankful to have been born on the other side of the Andes!

Dirk Dikkler, listen what George Galloway, Jeremy Corvyn, Roger Waters, Morrisey from the smiths, the street polls. Did you went to the street and asked people to get to that conclusion?.

Chicureo, with all due respect, sometimes i dont think if you are really a chilean or a porteño argentine in the 90's (when Menemist said we were part of the first world), for your way of describing italians, french and argentineans.
Italians, came from north and south, as well as the french, english and welsh.

Still, i dont underestand why the meticulously obsession with the origins of the inmigration as if somehow you think it diminish ourself as a people for having a calabrian inmigration. Do you think that race matter?. Do you think that our economic problems are due to our bad influence of inmigration?. Do you think Chile is better for not “having” these kind of inmigration?.
I think it is you, who are very resentful and not that argentine team that who knows why refused to shake hands with you. The fair play is important in sport, but why they refused to shake hands?. Did your coach investigated the matter?. May be, the fears of a comming war and not EGO prevented them to shake your hand. Or may be you were too smelly and sweaty, i dont know.
Chile its a great nation, for me a brother nation. And im more than sure they will be the first to become a developed nation in South America. But until then, i suggest you dont act like a prick while you are still living in a comfortably third world nation with many shanty towns and second class citizens to incorporate.
We are all thankful too that you have born on the other side of the Andes!.
    Saludos orgullosamente de Argentina!.

Argentines have always looked down upon us — as they think they are somehow superior. The truth is much of your population can be traced back to Southern Italy as Argentina offered them opportunities. (Italian immigrants were famously fed free beef lunches at arrival to your country in the early 1900s.)

Although part of my Chile ancestry is from the 16th century Spain — the last of my family to emigrate to Chile was at the end of the 19th century — mostly from Scotland.

The Scot ancestry is why I studied at the Grange School in Santiago, as my father and grandfather did as well.

I’m also fully aware of your country’s diverse population demographics. I have several friends in your country — and until the pandemic — vacationed with their families at Las Leñas.

During the last century — your country was arguably the most advanced in South America and only rivaled perhaps by Venezuela. Exactly a century ago Argentina was one of the 7 richest countries in the world!

Today — Chile has become the most successful nation on our continent with the lowest rate of poverty and fastest economic growth — solidified with an independent central bank.

Open your eyes! The problems of your country are self inflicted!

“Argentines have always looked down upon us”. Well, time change isnt it?. It seems you were resentful after all. Becouse thats the atitude you are having right now. Im sorry if you felt underestimated by Argentina in the past. But times goes by. If you have argentinian friends, you should have passed this long time ago.
However, im not a psychologist and certainly, im not trying to judge you. But you are not more nor less than any other South American neighbour.

When you say: “Chile has become the most successful nation on our continent with the lowest rate of poverty and fastest economic growth — solidified with an independent central bank.”
You does not impress nobody saying Chile is the most successful, bla bla bla. It certainly is, at least for me. But im not impressed to hear that. Im impressed to taste chilean wine, or their beaches, or their views or sharing a good asado.

Why im saying this?. Becouse in the 90's many argentines porteños kids were bragging about the same superficial stupid things like you. Like how successful your nation is. Reality was and is, that both nations are still in the third world and the “almost there” can last an eternity.

“Open your eyes! The problems of your country are self inflicted!”. Open your eyes too, you can be in the same problems we are.
    Cheers!

Argentina’s ‘problem’ with the Falklands is one entirely of their own making.

Argentinians get their propaganda version of S. Atlantic history with their mother’s milk, little wonder many of them grow up believing it.

Such that even a number plate ‘H982 FKL’, frightens them.

The reality is it is an ‘opiate for the masses’, when the inevitable economic crisis hits, just push the big red ‘Malvinas button’, hard wired into them at birth and nobody cares about 50%+ inflation or mass unemployment anymore.

I did once hear other S. Americans describe Argentinians as, ‘Italians speaking bad Spanish who thought they were English’.

Although why they would think of themselves as ‘English’ is beyond me.

I do hope all is well with those you care for — we’re here at the farm getting ready for an asado tomorrow. (Nothing as pretentious as what an Argentine would do — but we are having cochinillo asado [roast suckling pig] with all the accompaniments.)

As Zaczac mentions — I too miss the sarcasm and wit of Señor THINK. (I do hope he’s been seduced by a sedutora Italiana but during this pandemic his absence is troubling.)

The particular case of Señor THINK is an excellent example of the diversity of the Argentines with his Danish ancestry mixed even with Chile and there are a lot of Argentines that trace their roots back to the UK.

However, the reason why I think the Argentine character is so corrupt can be traced specifically to the majority of Argentines being of Calabrese — which along with the majority of Southern Italy is traditionally controlled by the Mafia.

From personal experience Argentines have the contemptible arrogance of the French and consider themselves selves far superior to other South American countries.

By survival — an Argentine businessman must avoid paying all the taxes and bribes just to succeed — whereas here in Chile bribery and tax avoidance are severely punished.

The reason for Chile’s overall success was directly because of our rejection of a Marxist government and embracing in the economic philosophy of Dr. Milton Friedman and his Chicago Boys. Having a strong independent central bank has resulted in a very stable currency and our tax laws encourage exports.

(I would add that Argentina has the potential to recover their glory and prestige if only they would stop blaming others for their faults!)

…by the way — Madame’s sweet-potatoes dauphinoise was prepared with the speckled purple sweet-potato variety that was thinly sliced with the cut sides rubbed with garlic cloves all over the sides and bottom of a large non-stick ovenproof dish. They were then each layer seasoned. Then poured over the cream, dot the top with butter and cooked in the oven for 1 hour.

The result is a culinary perfect paring with the extraordinary fish and absolutely delicious baby Romanesco which is the first time we’ve actually tried before. …truly marvelous!

Nobody has to ask how exciting is life for a narcissist on farm, your last submission tells the whole story.

“First of all, Narcissists have no inner sense of value. They derive all of their value from the external, through different forms of Narcissistic Supply. Narcissistic Supply is anything that might feed a Narcissist’s ego. It could be negative, it could be positive, or it could be neutral; As long as it feeds their ego, Narcissists will try to grasp onto it and never let go. A Narcissist’s quest for this supply is nearly always going to end up hurting others- especially if others are a threat to their source of supply.
Narcissists attach themselves to people like leeches do, sucking as much supply from others’ as they can.”

The day has been incredibly pleasant 17°c (62°f) high — which was excellent for cycling although there is a noticeable increase of traffic on the roads here.

We stopped for caffè lattes, purchased bread and delicious chocolate pastries at the La Partisana Italian bakery.

This evening we’re having dinner with friends at the Travesía restaurant located at the Hotel Sheraton Miramar. (Truly a beautiful venue with magnificent views!)

Although there’s concern about another wave of virus mutants possibly resulting in restrictions — we’re filing all the permits and notices to conduct a day long safety seminar all day on the 18th — which worked perfectly last year!

Good to see your comments. We decided as a family to celebrate life and use common sense. This evening we’re joining with friends at a hotel that was closed during the height of restrictions.

Although I’ve received my third vaccination of the Chinese COVID Sinovac vaccine, the best information I see from the “Mu variant” is a treatment of Monoclonal Antibodies, Ivermectin, Z-Pack or Zithromax (azithromycin), Prednisone and both vitamin and NAD drips.

Chile has remained fairly isolated although our neighbors are experiencing a massive rate of new cases. Obviously having a high percentage of vaccinated Israel, Gibraltar and Iceland have destroyed the narration of mandatory vaccinations.

Anyway, we’re soon going to be extremely busy for the asado. Our invaluable Venezolana assistant has two other gals under her supervision to comply with all the ridiculous COVID safety regulations.

We’ve ingeniously discovered the best solution is to bog the inspectors with multiple permits and signed approval beforehand. (That’s why the asado is registered as a safety meeting.)
