The Parliament of Barbados has passed by 25 votes to none a Constitutional Amendment whereby the former British colony, which remained within the Commonwealth after its declaration of independence in 1966 will become a republic and thus remove Queen Elizabeth as head of state. This article is hopelessly inaccurate. The fact that Barbados is to become a republic does not mean that it would leave the Commonwealth. Over 50 nations are members of the Commonwealth, the great majority (but not all) of them former British colonies or protectorates. Many member states of the Commonwealth are republics: there is no requirement that members of the group must acknowledge Queen Elizabeth as head of state; that is entirely the choice of individual states. Whether or not the process adopted by Barbados to change its status from realm to republic if effective or technically legal is a separate issue.

Totally agree with Felipe . A country can decide to change the head of state but still remain in the Commonwealth . In fact of the 50 plus members only about 15 have the Queen as head of state , the rest a President . People seem to find it difficult to accept that ex- colonies freely retain their links with the mother country via the Commonwealtk . In the case of the Caribbean it was very useful to keep the Queen as head of state , it would make Castro think twice before attacking !

Yes, Rwanda and Mozambique are commonwealth members and they are not ex colonies and have never had the Queen, or any British monarch, as head of state.

    Precisely.

Mercopress wrote about it 17 September last year:

“Barbados to become a republic November 2021; the Caribbean nation is expected to remain in the Commonwealth”

Attack who? Maybe Libya, maybe Iraq, maybe Afghanistan?

Those who are used to attacking and decimating human beings around the world are the neoliberals on duty.

Socialist countries are essentially peaceful because the sin of greed has been extirpated in favor of equality and brotherhood among men!

The Cubans sent tens if not hundreds of thousands of ‘military advisers’ to fight in wars all over the world, especially in Africa. Along with the N. Koreans.

The reason there are so many Cubans in Miami is not because Cuba is a Bolivarian paradise.

In 1963, Cuba sent 686 troops together with 22 tanks and other military equipment to support Algeria in the Sand War against Morocco. In 1964, Cuba organized a meeting of Latin American communists in Havana and stoked a civil war in the capital of the Dominican Republic in 1965, in 1967 Ernesto Guevara attempting to start a revolution in Bolivia, Cuba dispatched tens of thousands of troops in support of Soviet-supported wars in Africa, eg. in 1978, Cuba sent 12,000 regular troops to Ethiopia, assisted by mechanized Soviet battalions, and sent more than 65,000 troops and 400 Soviet-made tanks into Angola. In 1972 Cuba also sent consisting of tank, air, and artillery specialists to South Yemen.

Brasileiro spend a month in Cuba with your eyes and mind open and you'll realize how wrong you are. There you'll meet Policia Especial harrassing anyone who speaks against the dictatorship.

So to understand the “calibre” of Mia Mottley, she is after “compensation for slavery” as well, she wants money for the cotton she never picked from the UK!
The further away she goes the better, good ridance.
Behind this move we may find China as well, if so we should recognize Taiwan and Tibet we need to stop accepting this Chinese imperialist “one China” policy.
Truman Doctrine and Appeasement Policy also had a lot to do with China's power of today, it has been catastrophic for the West, and now Biden with Afghanistan, what can I say? It gets better and better. China is on a roll.
