Compassionate charter flight to Chile not approved by Government of Argentina

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has been informed that the permissions required to operate a compassionate charter flight between the Falkland Islands and Chile have not been granted by the Argentine authorities. This flight was due to travel to Chile from the Falkland Islands on Saturday 19 March 2022, and return on Saturday 9 April.

Reflecting on the situation, MLA Teslyn Barkman, Chair of the Legislative Assembly, said: “It’s deeply disappointing that this flight has not be given permission. This was an opportunity for people to visit family they have not seen in an incredibly long time, due to the pandemic. Loved ones who have been kept apart for two years and who have not been able to be with their families during some of the darkest and most difficult times. How could anyone refuse them this single chance to spend three weeks with those they care the most about?

“Additionally, many still need to renew vital documents or manage other outstanding personal and health issues that were also impacted by Covid-19, and this flight was the most direct and viable way to help these people.

”This was, arguably, a small administrative decision on the part of the Argentine authorities, but it could and would have made a whole world of difference for those in our community. People who had already started making plans to travel and who will now feel justly devastated to be told that it will not go ahead.

“There has been an incredible amount of work put into getting this flight put in place and to fall at the final hurdle is extremely frustrating, upsetting and disheartening. On behalf of the Legislative Assembly, I would like to apologise to our community and we hope that they know we did everything we could to make this flight operational.”

This is what we have to deal with.

So flights on Argentine terms only!

What goes around, comes around. No wonder Chile hates them so much.

Cue the response along the lines of ‘we offered this last year and the offer was throw. Back in our faces.’

Sure, Argentina is the obvious choice for assistance to get Chileans home. What a bunch of low-life scumbags.

So it’s compassionate when Argentina offers a conditional mercy flight, but with conditions it’s ok.

All we want to do is have a flight without conditions that will not be filled with flag waving trouble makers who will not comply with Covid restrictions.

Simple but obviously not simple enough for an indoctrinated imbecile.

    Me dear Jedi389 Kelper...

The MPA-PUQ-SCL-PUQ-MPA Aerolineas Argentinas commercial charter flight would..., of course..., only be for FALKLAND/ ISLAS MALVINAS IRESIDENTS, providing they need to travel...:
    • To renew travel and/or identification documents
    • To visit family that they have not seen for a long time, due to pandemic disruptions
    • To manage other outstanding personal and/or health issues which have been impacted by Covid-19.

    - I am positive that them isolated Windblown Islands Foreign Residents are quite Covid -Free..., are certainly no troublemakers and that they will be permitted to wave any reasonably sized flag of their liking onboard...

Simple but obviously not simple enough for some...

    Capisce...?

    Showing your lack of knowledge.

Flight was for Chilean nationals only. No business reasons. Not for a holiday.

We have had so many flights with Argentine citizens with nowhere to stay, so this has to be sorted. No insurance and we the tax payer have covered the costs, including repatriation costs for close family members.

Some have been unable to follow our basic laws, including vandalism, public order, flight safety and stealing.

So I can guarantee that the rules on Covid would be broken. Plus with a low take up of vaccination in Argentina, we would have to foot that bill too.

Aerolineas Argentinas ? A way of getting a foot in the door. I hope to never see one of those flights here as long as I draw breath as it’s a slippery slope.

I just hope that FIG will be as considerate when there is an application for the next of kin visits. You can say no, so can we!

Showing your lack of reading comprehension..., lad...

Try to read my post again... Can you see now that I Copied and Pasted FIG's own rules for the flight...?

If you don't like us Argies, just say it..., boy...
No need for pathetic, convoluted excuses & whinging...
    Capisce...?

I can see that, but we also know how rules that apply to the rest of the free world apply to Argentina!

I actually have nothing against the majority of Argentine people. What I object to is our way of life being threatened and the smoke screen that the Government of Argentina are putting up all in the cause of national integrity, by a group that have none.

No excuses excuses or whinges. Just the reality of the situation.

    Plain and simple.
