Brazil's President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Friday said that whoever is appointed economy minister under him will have the necessary autonomy so long as he or she does not forget who was the one elected for the people to rule the country, which meant that the head of state will not be absent from the most relevant decisions.     Lula's government hasn't even started yet and it's already drawing all attention.

    I don't like to create expectations, but I confess that I am extremely optimistic about the new Brazil that will come in 2023.

    Agreed. These reports of a realistic and pragmatic approach to the economy are encouraging and, if adhered to, would put the more strident anti-Lula propaganda to a lie. As always, I wish all Brazilians better 'ordem e progresso'.
