Former Brazilian Vice-President Hamilton Mourão Tuesday condemned the situation of the people arrested after Sunday's riots in Brasilia.
The indiscriminate detention of more than 1,200 people, who today are confined in precarious conditions in the premises of the Federal Police in Brasilia, shows that the new government, consistent with its Marxist-Leninist roots, is acting in an amateurish, inhuman, and illegal manner, Mourao wrote on his Twitter account.
The current Senator-elect, who had distanced himself from former President Jair Bolsonaro and was not his running mate in last year's elections, also pointed out that Brazil and the detained people expect fast action from our parliamentarians in office and from real Human Rights entities.
In reply to his postings, Mourão was criticized by former friends and all-time foes alike.
From the Bolsonarist group, he was not forgiven for what was dubbed as treason which led the retired Army captain to pick former Defense Minister Walter Souza Braga Netto, also a retired Army general, to join his presidential ticket.
At the same time, those who favored President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva reminded Mourão of his constant defense of the 1964 coup d'état, which rendered him unworthy of speaking about human rights.
