Four children were killed and at least four injured Wednesday in an attack on a daycare center in southern Brazil.

A man entered a daycare center with an axe and killed four children and injured four others. The violent episode occurred early in the morning in Blumenau, in the state of Santa Catarina.

According to the Police, the event occurred early in the morning when the 25-year-old man jumped over the wall of the daycare center and attacked the children with an axe. This resulted in the death of three children and a girl between 5 and 7 years old. After this episode, the murderer turned himself in.

As soon as they heard about the attack, the children's parents rushed to the scene and, according to firefighters, the atmosphere was one of despair. Initially, only security agents entered the site to rescue the victims, and the survivors were gradually released.

In front of the school, parents gathered in search of news. By around 10:00 a.m., all the children had been removed from the daycare center and were with their families.

The Santo Antonio Hospital explained in a press release that two boys and two girls were injured as a result of the attack and are still under observation. For its part, the Fire Department reported that only three people were injured.

The attack came ten days after a school in Sao Paulo was attacked by a teenager who stabbed to death a teacher and wounded three others, in addition to a student. Since 2011, more than 10 schools have been attacked by criminals in Brazil.
