According to the Office of Ecuador's Attorney General, at least ten people were killed and two others were injured in an attack on Saturday evening in Guayaquil.

“FiscalíaEc opened ex officio a preliminary investigation for the murder of 10 people, after an armed attack, occurred Saturday night on Gómez Rendón and 14th streets, southwest of Guayaquil,” the agency posted on Twitter.

“Operations are being carried out to locate the presumed perpetrators of the attack, but no one has been arrested,” it also pointed out.

Local media highlighted that the event took place in the vicinity of a mechanic shop, while the victims were watching a football match and were shot at with rifles.

It was the second such attack this month, after one presumably by a drug trafficking gang on April 11 in the artisanal fishing port of the province of Esmeraldas (northwest) which left nine people dead and four others wounded.

Also Saturday, another armed attack took place with a death toll of four people in the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood of Atacames, in the province of Esmeraldas.
