Actually the King has opened the Royal records for examination by experts for any l.inks with slavery way back in those centuries
Don't forget folks- Which old European power was the FIRST to accept how wrong it was and to , outlaw slavery and whose Navy lost several thousands of sailors mostly due to tropical disease over years trying to stop it off West Africa in particular.
And all the African Kings and Chiefs way back then who were happy to make a lot of money selling off their unwanted subjects and those from surrounding areas.
Even today about 50% of the Nations where slavery is still openly practised - are in Africa.
Yes it was awfull- but it was a very different world back then, The Spanish inquisition was awfull as well to anyone who was not a certain religion- so does anyone hold today,s Spain to account for it?

Quite a natural progression though for many Commonwealth Countries to move away from the Crown as Head of State, especially as we now move forward into a new generation. They are still of course full Members of the Commonwealth.
