As long as there is no union between us, countries on planet earth, in the military we deposit the guard of our sovereignty.

    Marvellous, the Saab Griffin.

A third of the aircraft, in terms of cost, are British made systems, even when assembled in Brazil.

A good choice for Brazil all round, they get to assemble many of the aircraft with the technology transfer involved and it is a good choice militarily.

Assuming you are planning to fight a defensive war, or one within or close to your own borders.

I admit, I was surprised when Brazil chose this option, given all the talk of the ‘Blue Amazon’ at the time, I thought the F18 would be the favourite if you want to ‘project’.

However a sensible choice all round.

I believe that the important thing is not the Fighter, but the mastery of technology.

With technological mastery we will be able to develop other products, whether in the field of aeronautics, navigation, agriculture or clean energy.

There are many things that can be done. And SAAB/Sweden will be a partner in everything.

Well, yes you have a point, but here you will just be assembling the aircraft from systems entirely bought in and components mostly bought in.

However it is a good start.

I don't agree with your view.

The national technological content of the fighter to be assembled in Brazil will be 40% (60% if foreign companies installed here are also considered).

Considering that Brazil is negotiating the purchase of a second batch of aircraft (+72), the demand for domestic content would also increase.

Only the assembly would not interest us.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, it’s good deal for Brazil who will greatly increase their knowledge in aircraft design and construction, how to build airframes for instance.

However, as the article points out:

‘the Gripen NG relies on systems supplied by nations other than Sweden, which automatically excludes such components and technologies from an unrestricted sharing of strategic industrial information’.

You still have to buy in the clever bits.
