Taiwanese authorities announced Wednesday in Asuncion a US$ 4,800,000 disbursement of a monetary donation to Paraguay's Health Ministry to be allocated to the Trauma Hospital, the Itauguá Hospital, and the Pediatric Children's Hospital of Acosta Ñu. It was the third installment of a US$ 14,992,733 donation from the Asian island for the improvement of the Quality of Care of the Establishments of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, according to a statement from the Paraguayan Ministry. Disclaimer & comment rulesHow demeaning that in an 'upper middle income country' the Paraguayan government still accepts donation for its basic health system a if it were a poor sub-Saharan African country. So much for 'national pride and sovereignty' when the crooks running the country are prepared to beg from Taiwan in exchange for freebies for themselves - nothing to do with any ideological commitment to free speech and democracy, of which Paraguay is hardly a shining example. Meanwhile the very rich get richer will the lowest tax burden in the Americas at 9.7% of GDP - and the health needs of the poor depend on grants from abroad.
