It does not give ’direct access to Antarctica’, this is controlled by the British in the S. Atlantic, it does not even give the ability to track, never mind control, movements in the S. Atlantic/Antarctica.
And MP is NOT a NATO base, it’s outside NATO’s theatre of operations.
However it would increase the ‘threat level’ in the region, requiring a review of current deployments and necessitating an appropriate response, obviously.
