The erratic government of Chilean president Gabriel Boric, who this week is on a European tour of several countries managed a one point increase support in the latest performance poll, but a clear majority of interviews also pointed out that they consider Chile, “a corrupt country”.

Opinion poll Cadem which makes a weekly report on the Chilean president's support and the performance of his government indicated that Boric had a one point increase from 28% to 29% in last Sunday's release, and equally important for a third week running did not keep sliding down. Likewise disapproval for Boric's administration also dropped, from 67% to 64%.

An interesting factor is that Chile's youngest elected president has seen the support of his performance remains strongest among women, while it continues to drop in the opposite gender.

However a worrisome fact is that contrary to Chile's international reputation, the Cadem public opinion poll showed that 71% of interviews consider “Chile is a corrupt or very corrupt country”, and 54% feel corruption is expected to increase in the rest of president Boric's mandate.

In this line of thinking the institutions considered most corrupt are political parties, municipal governments, the national Congress and television reporting. At the other end the most trustworthy institutions in Chile, and for seven months running, are the Fire Department, followed by the Police Investigation Department and the Carabineros. In a one week blip the Chilean Constitutional Council which decides on constitutional interpretations and differences, has seen its trust increase two points to 33%.

Finally the Cadem poll reiterates that delinquency remains as the main concern for Chileans, followed by inflation, immigration, the health system, education and corruption. In effect 36% of interviews revealed they had been victims or attempted victims of a robbery, assault o attack in the last three months, be it in the street or at their homes.
