    All very necessary because of the hostile neighbours that continue to pursue an illegitimate sovereignty claim.

    The only thing they can do is continue occupying a part of Argentina illegally and by force.

    Its so laughable . the constant crying over something that did not happen 200 years ago, they will still be crying in 100 years time unless the next Argentine generation grows up,

    @darragh mmm David Tinker did not think the same as you.
    David

    If the issue was as trivial as is stated. Then the UN Security Council wouldn`t have given the UK the nod of approval. Such a supposed letter is obviously fake, otherwise you would have provided a source.

    The letter was written to his wife by British Marine David Tinker before he died on HMS Glamorgan on June 12, 1982, attacked by an Argentine MM-38 Exocet missile.
    Dear Christine, It is very easy to understand how the war has broken out: our Prime Minister imagined that she was Churchill challenging Hitler, and the Navy supported her to gain rapid publicity and popularity. I am sure that only Mrs Thatcher and the arms manufacturers will benefit from this destruction. What saddens me the most is that there is no cause for this war and if we are honest, the Argentines are much more patriotic with respect to the Malvinas than we are with the Falklands. And what the Prime Minister does not understand is that Argentines firmly believe that the Malvinas are theirs. They have sent pilots against us on suicide missions, on trips with no return, because we are out of their reach, and that they do not have rescue helicopters at sea to later recover the pilots. Argentine pilots face overwhelmingly superior anti-aircraft missiles every day. Indeed, the bravery of these men shows that they have much more than a tepid interest in these islands. considering the tragedy, anguish, and horror of the lives lost, which have been willingly sacrificed by politicians to cover up the ineptitude and necessity of their government, considering further the results in pain, economic loss, and loss of ships to Great Britain, it seems to me that this is the most useless war that Britain has ever waged in its entire history. I hope all this ends soon… I think the Argentines have already honorably demonstrated their courage. considering the tragedy, anguish, and horror of the lives lost, which have been willingly sacrificed by politicians to cover up the ineptitude and necessity of their government, considering further the results in pain, economic loss, and loss of ships to Great Britain, it seems to me that this is the most useless war that Britain has ever waged in its entire history.

    According to David Tinker, when Argentina took over the Falklands and its people,

    Margaret Thatcher was wrong to try to liberate the Falklanders.

    According to David Tinker, Argentina did no wrong to invade another people, they were brave.

    And Margaret Thatcher was wrong to stand against this invasion, because it was brave.

    Tinker came into contact with Argentine pilot combatants, and in that contact, decided they had the right to the land.

    He did not have any contact with the Falklanders though.

    Maybe he would have accorded those humans some rights too, if he had any contact with them.

    I'm guessing Tinker's family never had any love for Margaret Thatcher.

    But David Tinker gave his life for his country, and a parent can be understood for being against a war that cost them their child.

    I myself have never heard of other British combatants in this war expressing these kinds of sentiments.

    I think most of them felt liberating the Falklanders was not wrong.

    As you well know my comment was about the here and now not 40 years ago but then being an Argentine all you have is the past as you certainly have no future.

    Oh boy a link to 'The National' a hard right Scottish news agency which hates the UK (and England in particular) and is virulently opposed to Brexit. Owned by the American Gannett Group which is partly owned by Scotbank..You might as well quote Putin.

    darragh:
    If you are talking about the here and now, then establish a constructive dialogue with Argentina.
    Leave political considerations about the media for a moment and read the article.

    Malvi, there was constructive dialogue between Buenos Aires and Britain, but that all ended when you voted in the crazy Peronists, it is they who reneged on a signed treaty, it is they who have tried to bully 3800 Islanders and failed, open your eyes and ears and mind,

    You do not want constructive dialogue and to leave aside political considerations:

    Here is our starting point for the dialogue:

    Argentina must:

    1) Admit it has lied continually about the events on Jan 1833, and deliver an apology to all international forums where it has mentioned usurpation

    2) Apologise to the people of Argentina for the lies and propaganda

    3) Apologise and recompense the people of the Falklands to the tune of $4bn USD (paid in USD) for the 70 years of lies

    4) Apologise and pay recompense to the UK for the 1982 invasion and subsequent defense costs of the islands

    5) Remove and rehouse all Latinos from Patagonia, and return the land to ethnic Amerindians, repay all stolen natural resources.

    Lets begin the constructive dialogue....oh

    you meant Britain should buy into your lies, give you something that was never yours, just because you've stamped your feet like spoilt children...nah, thats not going to happen.

    Marv, we talked already. From 1966 to 1982, we talked. Then Argentina stopped talking and opted for trial by combat. Now there is nothing left to be said.

    The future of the Islands is settled - the Islanders won.

    @Juan
    We must continue to insist despite the disastrous politicians we have.
    Argentina is such a big and rich country that they still haven't managed to destroy it.
    @MonkeyMagic
    Argentina has not lied about the events of January 1833, Great Britain appointed its first governor and incorporated the islands to the British crown only in 1843, after the eviction of the Argentine population. Which means the islands were never British.
    The first town founded on the islands was not exactly British, teach that to your students.
    Some form of compensation for the inhabitants of the islands is possible in case of transfer of sovereignty. Everything is possible with dialogue.
    In any case, the United Kingdom must indemnify Argentina for 200 years of occupying a piece of Argentine territory. The United Kingdom United belongs to Europe in the North Atlantic. The eras of colonialism and imperialism are over.
    As for the natives, it has no point of comparison with the theft between states. Since you don't have arguments, you just become moralists when you've just robbed, looted, murdered around the world.
    If you have to indemnify everyone they'd be left without a single shilling.
    @redhoyt
    16 years of dialogue for 200 years of conflict is nothingness itself. It demonstrates the United Kingdom's lack of willingness to dialogue and the weakness of its arguments to support its position.

    Malvi, what dialogue can there be ? its written in your constitution that there is only one outcome the transfer of Sovereignty. that is not going to happen unless the islanders choose that, do you think anyone van trust the Peronists ? Britains claim to the islands was long before Spains. and long before Argentina even existed, again you repeat a FALSEHOOD that an Argentine population was evicted, this is 1000% not true, there has not been 200 years of conflict in any way shape or form. for many many years there was nothing, Britain owes Argentina nothing, Now just suppose for 1 minute that you were usurped (which is not true) Britain and Spain and France have had many territorial issues over time, was not Britain usurped at one time by Spain, ? Argentina is not Spain, you did not inherit their history or any lands 1000s miles away judt like yo didnt inherit Cuba or Chile or any other lands,.no regarding the usurping of southern Argentina from the natives of the land, you claim its not the same, it is exactly the same, no difference what so ever, that argument is bonkers. is it because their skin was not white so it does not count, ? that is nonsense and you know it, every country on mainland America has been taken by force,(usurption) that argument would be laughed out of any court of law, whether you like it or not the Falklands are here to stay,

    Malvi

    You know, I know and the log of the SS Sarandi shows that no Argentine population was evicted. You cannot name a single citizen evicted against their will so stop lying it is tiresome. You are correct, the Uk belongs in Europe. However, like you some Europeans made the America’s their home , the Falkland Islanders did just the same as you.

    The islands are their home and their country. The uk does not want sovereignty, it will hand it to Argentina tomorrow if the islanders request it.

    But they don’t , Malvi….these people who have families in South America longer than most in South America don’t want to be Argentine.

    They don’t want to be part of a corrupt failed state, a lying, cheating scum of a country, who invaded them and lie about them.

    So, things will remain as they are, and you are part of the reason Malvi, because you keep lying.
