Of course water demand worldwide is more than twice what it was in 1960, because the 1960 world population was 3,019,233,000 while the 2023.07 world population is 8,045,311,000 [1] 2.6 times the 1960 number.

The photo at the top of the article shows what the real problem is: An insane waste of water used for irrigation.

Unless every farmer worldwide learn to use the best possible watering methods, like drip irrigation and soaker hoses, surface irrigation , and small sprinklers close together (high initial costs), and sprinkler watering only between sunset and sunrise, billions are going to die.
