Sergio Massa: “For me Thatcher is an enemy of the Argentine people”

Full article 30 comments

In a heated debate that unfolded on Sunday, Libertarian Congressman Javier Milei found himself at odds with Economy Minister Sergio Massa. The confrontation reached a boiling point as Milei accused Massa of employing the “falacia ad populum” strategy, dismissing technical discussions as if they were only meant for a select few, rather than the millions of voters they both aimed to represent. The biggest enemy of the Argentine people has been and still is their own government.

The word “Kelper” was not mentioned once by anyone in the debate.
Milei is a phony sociopathic manipulator, trying to maintain people's approval by stating emphatically things like “The Malvinas Islands are Argentinian”, undoubtedly shored up by his own egomaniacal spirit, while the next second he tries to please British interests by adhering to their bogus policy of “islander self determination”, which if President would most likely lead to experimenting with British cleverly offered options.
Massa on the other hand vehemently stands against “islander self determination”, which proves to me that neither one of the two men understand the irrelevancy and inapplicability of *“islander self determination” to the matter of sovereignty rights between Argentina and G.Britain. A success for the British cheating ploy of camouflaging its simple usurping expansionist aims of the last century.
    -
*Not that Islander Self Determination does not exist. Of course it exists. We are talking about the whole gamut of matters concerning a people's or individual's self determination, which we all share equally in this world. However, in the proper critical order and logic in this particular matter, the islanders are not sovereign. They may administrate to a large degree with ample autonomy the extent of affairs concerning their lives and the geography they have come to live on, but that is just how London or the UK have set them up for its own purpose and reasons. Ultimately they cannot have any say in the greater affair of sovereignty among two nations even over the land they are living on, as one of those two nations rules over their territory. The proper way of reasoning that situation would be for Argentina and G.Britain to agree on a given number facts, points, issues, etc, produce a plausible permanent resolution, then GB approach the islanders with it, and if the islanders don't accept it, return to the negotiating table with Argentina... and so forth.

    Mr. KikeUshuaia

If you “Don't quite get it”..., my esteemed zoete aardappel..., try to inform yourself about the hopeless political, economical &social situation of “our dictators” in February, 1982...

More than probably..., the Malvinas Conflict did accelerate the process of degradation of “our dictators” by some months..., but that doesn't translate into us wishing to give Mrs. Thatcher a rim-job..., as little as any Gazan..., LGBT or not..., would wish to give this idiotic guy one...:

Never liked Thatcher, her economic policies destroyed manufacturing in the North and Midlands , but she is dead and buried now ,so why even mention her in the debate, far more important issues to be addressed,

Britain had always been positively open to “would that war to ever happen” since 1833, as its plausibility was always seen as an opportunity to make a stronger move forward onto the South Atlantic, onto Argentina... or onto whatever. As clearly demonstrated when it did happen. Who did ever present Britain a military challenge capable of foiling their greedy ambitions south of the Equator? Enough said.

Chic, she was a very strong leader on the world scene, but her domestic policies ravaged Britain, ask people in the industrial cities of the North and Midlands what they think of her, it would make you blush,

    Talking of the mad .......

The Skandi/Argie, Argie/Skandi, living in Italy (?). You've been quiet Trunks, thought you passed on to ... wherever. Presumably not that third rate basket case known as Argentina? 140% inflation? But then it's long been said that the only thing wrong with Argentina, is the Argies. Perhaps you should have welcomed us in 1806?

Who is Cruella Sionmann? Not that I've voted in a UK election for more than two decades. Probably three. After Thatcher was stabbed in the back by that pasty faced wimp John Major, I rather went off politicians. Could do with her back these days. They've all turned into pasty faced wimps.

Personally, I hope Milei wins on Sunday. He'll be far more fun to watch than Massa

    Roger,

I wanted to ask you about a different interesting post from above.

It seems between 1833 and 1982 Britain was always looking for a war in the south Atlantic in order to increase its military presence there.

And because this was a standing sentiment for 149 years, there must be piles and piles of evidence demonstrating Britain's regular desire for a war in the south Atlantic. Is that right?

Personally, I had no idea that for 149 years Britain was always hoping for military action in the south Atlantic.

But it seems, although Argentina attacked the Falklands, that only clearly demonstrates it was Britain that started the war.

Makes a lot of sense, right?

Bush Pilot - if you start paying attention to Pat the Rat Regini, then all is lost.

    Madder than the average hatter.

Britain has shown no interest in fighting Argentina since before 1833. That is why we gave them two written warnings regarding the Falklands In 1829 and 1832. In 1833, there was merely a small police action to remove the trespassers.

In the early 1840s, Palmerston was asked to approve a British colony on the coast of Patagonia. He declined to give it his support.

The small spat over river access in the mid-1840s was of little importance to the UK. So little that we pretty well gave up the attempt almost immediately. The embargo was maintained because of the alliance with France, although we abandoned them in 1849.

In the early part of the 20th century there was some mild fencing with Argentina and Chile over obscure South Atlantic Islands. The Antarctic Treaty resolved most of those questions - which is why we were so involved in its creation.

Sense? Sense is a commodity mostly missing on these pages. The moreso from Pat the Rat Regini - an Italian/American from Hawaii who thinks he's Argentine.

Trunk, David Cameron is Foreign Secretary. He is not 'in power'. What he does have, however, are Chinese connections and if the USA is resetting its relationship with China, then it would be untenable for the UK not to follow suit. Following the Yanks, is what we appear to do most of the time. Annoying as that is.

Of course the real strength of Thatcher was not that she could have launched a nuclear attack on Argentina, nor whether she allegedly threatened to (according to a dodgy French claim), but actually that she didn't.

Instead 255 British servicemen had to die rather than a few 100,000 Argentines. That shows admirable restraint, pity and kindness. Far more than the likes of Trimonde and Think deserve. Was it the right decision? Possibly a new Argentina would have risen from the ashes, one less corrupt, entitled, utterly useless....

Milei probably wont win, but he is probably Argentinas last hope this side of a nuclear strike,
