Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Tuesday announced the creation of a military division for the Guiana Essequiba area, which the country claims as its own, particularly after Sunday's referendum, it was reported in Caracas. Military build-up reported as tension between Venezuela and Guyana escalates
Wednesday, December 6th 2023 - 10:50 UTCFull article22 comments
Neighboring Brazil is sending additional troops to the border with Venezuela and Guyana
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Tuesday announced the creation of a military division for the Guiana Essequiba area, which the country claims as its own, particularly after Sunday's referendum, it was reported in Caracas. The Essequibo is home to 125,000 of Guyana's 800,000 citizens.
Maduro also proposed a law to implement the results of Sunday's referendum, in which Venezuelans unilaterally approved the annexation of the territory of almost 160,000 square kilometers. It is an “organic law to regulate the creation of the state of Guayana Esequiba,” he explained
Brazil announced “intensified defensive actions” along its northern border fearing a possible invasion of Guyana by the dictatorial regime of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela. This Friday the UN International Court is expected to halt a referendum, on a disputed area between the two neighbors, which is seen as “an exercise in forced annexation” by Venezuela.”

Dec 07th, 2023 - 12:09 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Think, I salute you. You are indefatigable. Venezuela ceased to be a democracy in 2017. At least that's when it became obvious. The election that followed was a farce. 67%. Right. Even i 2013 he only got just over 50%. And it was Chavez charisma that got him over the line. Even then he was a ridiculous creature. It's not US sanctions that ruined the economy, it's their dependence on oil revenue.
Dec 07th, 2023 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse -1One of Venezuela's Presidents ( I can't remember which ) said, in the '60's that oil would be their ruin & he was prophetic. Nationalising the oil industry in the 70's sealed the deal. They've never maintained & updated their infrastructure to the degree they should have & then Chavez screwed up by insisting their oil company's employees declare their allegiance only to his party. Petrochemical engineers are the wrong people to give ultimatums to. They can work anywhere. So lots of them left. And it's infrastructure has continued to decline. And like Russia, they depended on Western oil companies technology & expertise to fix all this crap & they don't have access to any of that anymore.
The worst thing that happened to Chavez is when oil prices exploded after the invasion of Iraq. Suddenly he had so much money to spend. And spend he did. Some of what he spent it on actually benefited the country. He built lots of public housing, and if memory is correct he paid of much of the public debt. He wasted the rest. Some of it went to political ally's overseas. I'm sure you remember that $200K he sent to CFK that ended up instead in Miami?
Oil revenue dependancy stopped Venezuela from investing in things it really needed - notably agriculture - and wasted too much burnishing Chavez ego. He loved the Bolivarian image. And Maduro is just a clown, for whom I have nothing but contempt. He has presided over malnutrition ffs.
Yeah, and I'd take declaring your going to annex a part of another as clear intent of invasion.
Sorry for the long post. I'm bored:(.

Dec 07th, 2023 - 01:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Distances in the Amazon are incredibly large. A regiment of amphibious tanks is the minimum necessary to keep two army divisions well supplied.
Supply lines are long and infrastructure is non-existent in the forest. Air support is too complicated as the dense forest does not allow for the correct location of the target.
Therefore, one amphibious cavalry regiment is not enough. I believe the Army will increase its presence in the region very quickly.

Think: comparing Argentina mournfully, resentfully gazing at The Falklands from across the water to having Maduro perched on your doorstop are two different scenarios. No-one truly believes Argentina has the intention, let alone the capacity to invade The FL's. Maduro on the other hand is dumb & desperate enough to do it.
Dec 07th, 2023 - 02:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sorry about the 'history lesson'. I wasn't trying to lecture you. I just felt like writing it. And I can't always tell how you will interpret things. You aren't entirely predictable.
See you don't really know me. I've never argued that Venezuelan's don't have a good reason to be pissed off. They might have good reason to believe they got screwed out of a large piece of territory. But that's not why Maduro is being so militant is he? He doesn't care about justice. He doesn't even know what it looks like. He's there because he doesn't know what else to do. He is the most clueless political leader of a nation I can ever recall & a coward above all. And stupid & desperate enough to become reckless.
And as for Venezuela being 'cheated' out of 'their' land, I don't care & they shouldn't either. They still have the worlds largest oil reserves. They hit the jackpot when that was discovered. They lived pretty well for quite awhile and then they blew it. And that's on them. They don't even deserve the land they inhabited. They completely disrespected their good fortune. The ironic thing is, that oil is still worth an enormous amount of money if they can ever get their shit together or prove that they're worth investing in.
origins of the Venezuelan Esequibo Territorial Claim against Guyana...
Dec 07th, 2023 - 04:51 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Venezuela has long maintained that a decision taken in 1899 by an international arbitral tribunal to award it to Britain, the colonial power which at the time ruled over Guyana, was unfair.
The matter is currently before the International Court of Justice, although Venezuela has disputed the international court's authority to rule on the Essequibo dispute.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-67610200
Your darn tooting their disputing the courts authority. They can't authorise their claim because there is an already a legal end to Venezuela territorial claim issues.
Suriname's New River Triangle Territorial Claim ... Still leaving things unresolved on their side
Pss in 1899 the issue was settled, late claims are closed under the principles of the ”common-law legal systems, laches (/ˈlætʃɪz/ LAT-chiz /ˈleɪtʃɪz/; Law French: remissness, dilatoriness, from Old French laschesse) is a lack of diligence and activity in making a legal claim, or moving forward with legal enforcement of a right, particularly in regard to equity. This means that it is an unreasonable delay that can be viewed as prejudicing the opposing party. When asserted in litigation, it is an equity defense, that is, a defense to a claim for an equitable remedy.
The person invoking laches is asserting that an opposing party has slept on its rights, and that, as a result of this delay, circumstances have changed (witnesses or evidence may have been lost or no longer available, etc.), such that it is no longer a just resolution to grant the plaintiff's claim. Laches is associated with the maxim of equity: Equity aids the vigilant - not those who sleep on their rights. Put another way, failure to assert one's rights in a timely manner can result in a claim being barred by laches.”

(Cue...: Smallboats, Engrish Channel, Illegal Economic Migrants, Human Traffickers, Rwanda..., Cruella Braveman...)
A) - About 6.0000.000 Venezuelans have abandoned that socio-economic shithole their Country had become since +÷ 2015...
B) - The overwhelming mayority of them did so..., NOT because of Russian, Israeli or Yankee Intelligent Bombing but because a yearly hiperinflation topping at ~130,000% one year and continuing between 10,000% to 2,000% for some more years..., causing more than enough shortages and socioeconomic unrest...
C) - Now..., if anybody wants to dismiss the paramount role the USA economic blockade played in creating the Venezuelan Migrant Crisis... (as Mr. Heisenbercontext so lightly doed above)..., I reccomend reading the following...:

Air support/air re-supply in jungles is a capability the British and Americans have had since the Second World War.
If the Brazilian military cannot do this today, you need to be very, very concerned.
Using Amphibious AVs as supply wagons is ridiculous, not to mention the fuel consumption compared to boats or trucks or even aircraft.
You need the armour for the fighting, although what use they would be in a jungle is highly questionable.
You will note that in your first video everything is running on roads. In the second they are using helicopters and boats, no AVs in sight.

I always assumed that the Terry F*ckwit character was your most successful attempt yet at creating Artificial Stupidity, even rivalling your own natural stupidity and weapons grade obliviousness.
What I said was Russia won’t win in Ukraine and as usual I was correct, they are not winning and are paying a heavy price just holding the line on land and where their navy has been driven out of the Black Sea or sunk.
And this is before F16s enter the fray early next year.
Latest estimate is that the Ukraine war has set back Russia’s military modernisation plans by at least 18 years and counting.
Not to mention reducing the country to the status of a Chinese vassal state.
There are no gains or even upside to this for Putin and the Russians, only more losses, whereas for the West, hey for cost of 5% of the defence budgets you get to bleed the Russians white and not a single soldier on the ground, there is no down side.
Anyway are you still a refugee in Europe? Or has the situation in Argy occupied Wallmapu abated sufficiently to allow for the return of Squatters?
I thank god for the Anglosphere that defeated the Nazis and liberated Norway in ww2, i thank god for the Anglosphere and NATO that has kept democracy and freedom from communism, so my advice to you Brasil is do not listen to anything that Taenk says, most of it is untrue and nonsense,

OMG , FFS , How old are you Taenk 6 ?, are you old enough to be on this forum ? without doubt your posts are the most immature I have ever read, obviously not intelligent enough to have an adult conversation, your attempt to intimidate people with childish name calling is a farcical, one day you just might grow up, or may be you are just retarded and will remain a 6 year old forever, one thing is for certain though, you are a very silly silly little boy, since you have an obsession with veg, for me know you are the Lettuce, a wet one at that,
