Argentine President Javier Milei made a snap trip to Ushuaia late Thursday to meet US Southern Command Chief General Laura Richardson after Governor Gustavo Melella refused to welcome her and insisted she was “persona non grata.” Read full article
A lot of power struggling going on that is clear. Always though ,we , the islands have ended up being implicated. Fishing snipes were not only directed at foreign countries but at a very successful fishing industry around the Falklands.
I wonder, maybe we should invite Milei to the islands to show him first hand just how well we islanders are actually looking after the fish stocks around OUR waters, let him see how a real country is efficiently managed. Argentines always try to portray us as squatters, so come in peace and see for yourself. Dont listen to second hand gossip, get it straight from the horses mouth.
How hard would that be.
Isn't it interesting how MercoPress avoided mentioning something so notorious and outstandingly begging of argument by Falklanders and British alike, each for their own reasons, that Argentina's Malvinas Anthem was played while Laura Richardson stood at attention in a firm forward facing gaze, and that Milei stated clearly how this event was all about Argentine sovereignty and merit worthy control in Antarctica and the South Atlantic, only stopping short of mentioning the name Malvinas ?
Oh... but MercoPress is not a propagandist pamphlet, uh-uh, no siry! It's simply a fair and proper journalism venue. yeap. ;-)
UNCONVINIENT TRUTH OF THE ISLAS MALVINAS
Spot on, Patrick; I posted an opinion on the loss of American influence in the sub-continents that didn't sit well with some of the readers. This article (and your post) tell the American efforts to build better relationships with Argentina, they certainly regret ignoring the continental agreements (that we know as the OEA treaty), and having had a direct involvement in backing Thatcher in 1982.
In other matters, Argentina's main concerns for the illegal fishing is with the thousands of illegal ships fishing in the area. The issue with the current illegal government of Malvinas resides in that in spite of UN backed agreements NOT to pursue/take decision that impact both countries in this dispute, decisions have been taken in flagrant disregard for the agreement signed by both nations (such as the fake 2012 referendum, and recently, the oil excavation works performed).
The world has and is changing, as we all know, and things wont continue as they were in the past: we have all seen the signs, and impact of bad government decisions on both sides.
The UN didn't observe or legitimize your sham referendum. Yes, they did their silence is a legal endorsement. With the completion of the Referendum ...the Islands are now decolonized”.

Nice little dance you are doing there, Patsy. I'd tell you to lay off the drugs/booze, but the walls of verbiage you routinely post are so funny... ;)
