The usual gross hypocrisy of the British government. Talking of a 'global family' yet that excluded the people of the Chagos Islands who were forcibly removed from their land in the Indian Ocean to make way for a secret US airbase. Makes me sick to read this.

Not entirely true, the Chagos Islands were rapidly becoming uninhabitable, they were leaving anyway.

Same reason there will be no ‘return’, the Islands now can only support a very limited number of people for a short time.

As sea levels rise sea water contaminates the freshwater aquifers floating on top. The soils can no longer support any kind of agriculture or even grass for grazing animals.

Even if you can live on fish, seaweed and coconut milk there simply isn’t enough fresh water to survive there and it’s getting worse.
