Brasília has been confirmed as the host city for the 2025 Youth Games, scheduled from September 10 to 25, Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) President Marco La Porta and Federal District Lieutenant Governor Celina Leão announced Tuesday. Highlighting Brasília's history of hosting major sporting events, they underscored the importance of youth sports in building a sporting nation. This edition will further delve into engaging young audiences through electronic sports.
In Olympic sport, success is usually measured by the medals won at the Olympic Games. But the road to that is long, and it starts right here, among young people, at the base of the pyramid, La Porta said.
I've been saying that before we become an Olympic power, we need to become a sporting nation. And there's nothing better than the Youth Games to exemplify that, he added, noting that over 2 million young Brazilians from every state are expected to participate in the selection rounds to make it to the national stage.
We will undoubtedly have many future champions here in September, but in the process, we will train millions more, who will be impacted by the values of sport and who will, in some way, spread the practice of sport throughout their lives, La Porta underlined.
We are a little piece of each of the states, and we really need to be the home of all Brazilians. We are very proud to be hosting this event again, Leão stressed.
The 2025 edition of the Youth Games will feature virtual rowing. In addition to all the sporting and educational training, the Youth Games are our concept event, in which we implement all our innovations. This year, for example, we will have virtual rowing as our 20th sport, showing our vision for the world of electronic sports and bringing us even closer to young people, La Porta also mentioned.
