    As they all now have the right to British citizenship, mostly live in Croydon and have been paid compensation twice, they can hardly be described as still ‘suffering’.

    As to ‘the renewed possibility of returning to the archipelago’, Mauritius having control of the Islands doesn’t make them anymore habitable than they were when the British did.

    ‘commit to ensuring their return under “the best possible conditions.”’ Errr, like reversing climate change for example! He has probably never heard of King Canute, but then Canute wasn’t ‘divinely infallible’, was he.

    The issue with a ‘return’ is environmental and nothing else.

    As was at least part of the reason they had to leave in the first place.

    But no mention of the real issue, I see.
