The Foreign Secretary and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira signed the UK-Brazil Strategic Partnership in the margins of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. This elevates the bilateral relationship to a new level, setting an ambitious direction for the next chapter of the over 200-year relationship.
The Partnership commits the UK and Brazil to deepen cooperation across foreign and security policy, growth, defense and sustainable development as well as connections between our people – reflecting the strong, historic ties between our two countries.
With bilateral trade reaching £13.3 billion last year, the Partnership provides a framework to grow this even further, boosting investment and economic links. This new Partnership marks a significant step forward in the UK-Brazil relationship. We look forward to working closely with Brazil to deliver on this shared agenda – driving progress with renewed ambition in the years ahead.
The Brasilia release said that, ‘Brazil and the United Kingdom have decided to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. To this end, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and UK’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper signed today, March 26, the document “Brazil–United Kingdom Strategic Partnership 2026–2030.”
‘Brazil and the United Kingdom agree to intensify their cooperation in the following areas: political dialogue and international cooperation; trade and investment; security and defense; fair transition and sustainable development; and people-to-people connections.
‘In 2025, Brazil and the United Kingdom celebrated two hundred years of diplomatic relations. In that same year, bilateral trade reached US$7.8 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of nearly US$230 million.
‘The United Kingdom is one of the leading foreign investors in Brazil, with a stock of investment totaling US$35.8 billion in 2024. The country is also an important destination for Brazilian direct investments, which amounted to US$6.9 billion in the same year’.
