The change to East Midlands’ airport is technical, essential resurfacing works at RAF Brize Norton The Royal Air Force and British Forces South Atlantic Islands have informed to the Falkland Islands community of temporary changes to the South Atlantic Airbridge, SAA, which links the Islands with RAF Brize Norton in England.
According to an official release, due to essential runway resurfacing works at RAF Brize Norton, SAA flights will operate via East Midlands Airport between 27 July and 15 November 2026.
The first affected flight will be the northbound flight departing the Falkland Islands on 29 July 2026, travelling to East Midlands.
If flights are delayed for technical reasons, full fare-paying passengers will be looked after by AirTanker in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.
However this does not apply to delays caused by weather. Falkland Islands residents on reduced fares will need to make their own arrangements for onward travel from East Midlands Airport in the event of delays.
Flight timings and further details will be published closer to departure dates, https://www.raf.mod.uk/.../raf.../passenger-information/
BFSAI will continue to share updates as soon as more information becomes available to keep everyone informed.
