‘Soccer’ is incorrect, or is it still the fine term for the beautiful game?

    This is simply wrong, the term ‘soccer’ was not common usage before 1980, it was known but rarely ever used outside certain circles, namely the public-school boys or Oxford/Cambridge type students.

    For the great unwashed it has been Football for the last hundred years, if not always.

    Only the Toffs, the blue blooded rugger buggerers, ever called it ‘soccer’.
