Aviation and Tourism publications are reporting that after several years without regular services. Latam has returned to the Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego airport to offer nonstop flights from its main hub Sao Paulo on the continent.

According to those reports Latam Airlines last week inaugurated its seasonal direct flights between Sao Paulo (GRU) and Ushuaia (USH) following the landing of the first service in the Tierra del Fuego capital. Flight LA8174, operated by an Airbus A321neo registered as PS-LBN, took off from the São Paulo airport at 08:41 and touched down in Argentina’s southernmost city at 14:39, completing a journey of nearly six hours.

Accordingly the route will operate with four weekly frequencies, scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and will remain active until August 31. Although the carrier originally planned to use Airbus A320 aircraft, the initial operation was performed with a larger-capacity aircraft. Return flights (LA8175) depart Ushuaia at 15:00 and arrive at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport at 20:30.

The operation marks the return of regular airline services to Ushuaia since 2020. The exception occurred between September and December last year, when the airline covered the route between Punta Arenas and the Falkland Islands with a stop in the Tierra del Fuego city due to repairs at Río Gallegos airport. In this winter market, the carrier competes directly with GOL Linhas Aéreas, which will begin flying to the same destination on July 7, and with Aerolíneas Argentinas, which offers the connection from Brazil with a stop in Buenos Aires.

In parallel, LATAM’s winter schedule includes the resumption of flights between São Paulo and Bariloche (BRC). The airline has offered a daily service since June 15, which will increase to ten weekly frequencies during July and August, operated with A320 family aircraft.
