Moscow warns the UK of “consequences” over British drones used against its territory
Russia's embassy in London has accused the British government of deliberately opting for an escalation of the Ukraine conflict, after it emerged that British-made drones were used in strikes on targets inside Russian territory. “In doing so, the United Kingdom is acting as an accomplice and co-perpetrator of the bloody crimes and terrorist attacks,” it said in a statement. Disclaimer & comment rulesI'm glad the continued UK support to Ukraine is making news, and has provoked a bellicose Russian response. However, the UK has been under attack from Russia for many years now. We do not easily forget the Russian use of nerve agents in the UK to murder Russian dissidents. We also endure constant Russian cyber attacks as well as disinformation through social media. Attacks have also been recorded upon out communications infrastructure.

We must collectively bring this war to a just and lasting solution: it has been going on too long.
What this tells you is that the British drones are effective, they work and are hurting the Russians.

The war will probably only end when they get rid of Putin, he is unlikely to change course. After all he can get rid of anyone who disagrees with him, as he has done ruthlessly in the past.

Close to Salisbury is the Defence CBRN centre at Winterbourne Gunner and the Top Secret Research Laboratories at Porton Down. They conducted rapid identification and a risk assessment. This resulted in rapid dissemination of information to the general public (still available today through Public Health England Ref# 2017873) and yes, one of the pieces of advice (amongst others) was to wipe possibly contaminated surfaces with baby wipes and then dispose of them. Please read the document fully and research how nerve agents indiscriminately kill people. You might then realise why the UK is a signatory to the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention and thus only retains a protective capability.
If you are still laughing your backside off, then I suggest you have a warped and sinister sense of humour.

Just so you know, Novichok is lethal in miniscule amounts but degrades quickly in the environment, hence the Skripals survived because they came home several hours after the agent was applied to the house door handles.
Any sooner and they would have been dead.
The woman who died got a dose of the neat agent from the discarded fake perfume bottle.
And I remember your confident predictions about a Russian victory in Ukraine, no going so well for them now, is it?
Russian battlefield gains, if any, are measured in metres and at a cost of thousands of casualties. They are now losing more men than their conscription is replacing, but the Ukrainians are maintaining their combat strength.
Ukrainian drones (many British made) strike military and economic targets all over Russia, causing havoc for the Russian military and shortages for civilians.
While the Russians continue to hit civilian targets with no military or economic value.
There is no shortage of petrol in Ukraine, but there is in Russia.
Go figure.

The only thing I would add to the ‘baby wipes’ is wear rubber gloves when you do it.
It’s not going as badly for the Ukrainians as it was, but they have fought the Russians to a standstill, which is an improvement for them.
It is not going well for the Russians and that is for sure, they have been stopped, dead on the battlefield, literally.
The Russians are now recruiting in Africa, amongst other places and have at least 12,000 N. Korean troops fighting for them, problems is when they are captured, they don’t want to be exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners, they are supposed to die before surrendering and face a death sentence back home.
With a stalemate on the battlefield, we are now into a war of long-range drone/missile strikes.
Where the Russians continue to hit civilian targets, like today a ‘double tap’ strike on a shopping centre, or gas and electricity stations, things which have no military or economic value, in an attempt to break the will of the Ukrainian people.
History has shown on many occasions that this doesn’t work, and it won’t work here.
Whether Ukraine can do enough damage to military and economic targets in Russia to force a change in Putin’s thinking, I very much doubt, however others in Russia will realise this is now unwinnable for them.
Putin’s ‘special military operation’ supposed to last a few weeks, like Trumps ‘short war on Iran’ has gone on much longer than either of them expected, the difference is the US hasn’t suffered a million or so casualties and crippled their economy in the process, and still has a good chance of winning, in the end.
Is the reality.

You should well know that Russia has closed the Black Sea ports of the Ukraine, including parts of the Danube they can no longer export any grain, basically close to being land locked
Regarding the so called highly dangerous nerve agent
By your own narrative the woman died because the woman succumbed to fresh novichok, because it looses its effectiveness when exposed to air.

As an aside the woman was a reported drug addict and was treated as such when admitted to hospital until the government got wind of her admittance to hospital.
The whole government story has so many holes it is a joke.

Aug 22nd, 2026 - 11:05 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Common sense if you think about it, but the Russians (specifically Putin) still believes in punishing people to break their will to fight and that in a nutshell is why they are not winning that war, which they are most definitely not.
Since the Ukrainians sank most of the Russian Black Sea fleet and virtually all their tankers carrying fuel to Crimea, nothing Russian in the Black Sea now.
The Ukrainians are moving grain, not in the same quantities as before, they have been finding alternative routes since the war began.
A ‘stable Novichok’ is possible but would be of no use, it’s a tactical military weapon, after you kill everyone, you want to be able to occupy the place without killing your own troops.

And apparently Litvinenko was poisoned by Polonium from the tap water.
However, according to your information Russia had all but won this war two years ago, victory was in sight.
And now they are certainly much further away from ‘winning’ than they were then, in fact if the current trends continue, they are looking at a defeat.
Like I said, ‘There is no shortage of petrol in Ukraine, but there is in Russia, go figure’.
Your information is flawed leading to erroneous conclusions, I would suggest.

First not in any way have I used or pointed to The Guardian
Second neither am I a comrade or friend of Russia or anyone associated with Russia
Although I will admit to visiting Romania a long time ago due to my work back then which involved running off the books crude oil to Israel

You can suggest all you like but point me to something that is flawed in the opinions and facts of R Slane
As to me predicting a quick Russian victory 2 years ago god knows where you got that from
If the truth be said you are the one with flawed and erroneous conclusions
Example you said that the Skipals did not die because the nerve agent on the door handle had deteriorated due to expose to air in a short period of time . but that cannot be true As days later the OPCW were called in by the government to take a sample from the door handle . They reported back that the agent was of the highest purity without actually naming it as a nerve agent .
I will leave it at that but there is a lot more to this classic operation run in part by the intelligence services and other government departments
A fact is something you can prove, I see no evidence in Mr Slane’s post.

You certainly were predicting a Russian victory, which certainly hasn’t happened, Glide bombs, hypersonic missiles and mass armoured formations were going to win the war for them.
You recall the discussion about the difference between tactics and strategy?
Interested to know what you think about the situation now, and the probable outcomes.
I said, ‘degrades quickly in the environment’, which means air, sunlight and water, all of which can affect, when you’re talking chemistry minutes can be a very long time, more than enough for something to degrade, or ‘change state’.
‘Purity’ and ‘activity’ are not the same thing, somethings can be very high purity and very low activity, they have already reacted with something else which doesn’t change their purity.
Pure Sodium and pure Chlorine, both nasties, will react to form Sodium Chloride common table salt, not so nasty, but you have not affected the ‘purity’ of either, you have reacted them.
Hope this makes sense, as your clearly not a chemist, no criticism intended just an observation.
Putin killing off people he didn’t like, simple as that, it didn’t succeed due to incompetence which would have annoyed him.
In the Litvinenko case, the container with the Polonium was leaking, more incompetence, they left a trail of hard radiation wherever they went, you could follow every step with a Geiger counter.
Wouldn’t give much for their life expectancy.
