The Pentagon will livestream the firing-squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the military psychiatrist who killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009, scheduled for December 3. It will be the first execution carried out by the US armed forces since 1961, the first by firing squad since 1945 and the first publicly broadcast in the country’s history. Read full article

They just handed this guy a victory. It is clear from his behavior at trial that this is exactly the martyr's death he aspired to. The video will be used as a recruiting tool for future jihadis. A much more effective deterrent would be to make this cretin disappear from public mention for the rest of his natural life and coerce him to perform hard physical labor at a net profit 10 hours a day, six days a week. The same can be said for capital punishment in general. There is good evidence that it does not serve as a deterrent, but the prospect of lifetime labor would be, since the majority of these creatures are decidedly 'work averse'.
