    Poverty on the rise in Argentina, study finds

    According to the study, 32.5% of people with a regular job live “in households in poverty.”

    According to a study published Monday by the Observatory of the Argentine Social Debt (ODSA for its acronym in Spanish), poverty rose to 55.5% of the population, affecting nearly 25 million people in the South American country in the first quarter of 2024. At the same time, indigence (a situation even below poverty) reached 17.5% with a food insecurity scope of 24.7% of the population.

    Fourth Kirchner government climax, 12 month food inflation at 100%

    In the 12 months to October the Basic Food Basket inflation climbed 100,8% and 93,1% for the Total Food Basket

    The basic food basket, CBA, in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego province, Argentina soared 9,5% during October while the overall food basket, CBT, 9%, according to the latest figures from Indec, the country's stats office. This is 50% higher than the inflation rate for the month of October which stood at 6,3%.

    Hard times for Argentine families to remain above the poverty line

    The Minimum Basic Salary in Argentina is the equivalent of US$ 272 and US$ 151 (based on the two exchange rates), which is below the indigence reference.

    An Argentine standard family of two adults and two children needed the monthly equivalent of US$ 664 or US$ 380 (depending on the official or free money exchange market) to be considered above the poverty line during the month of June. July figures will be released in fifteen days.

    September inflation in the Argentine extreme south province of Tierra del Fuego reached 1.2% and 18,8% in the nine months of the year, and 25.1% in the last twelve months according to the provincial stats and census office.

    Inflation in Argentina during April reached 2.1% and 29% in the last twelve months according to the latest release from private consultants, an average of which is announced every month as the 'Congressional index' by members from the Lower House Freedom of Expression committee.
