  Memorial unveiling to commemorate the Battle of the River Plate

  

  With consular representation from New Zealand and Uruguay, survivors of the first major naval battle of the Second World War will gather at Britain's National Memorial Arboretum to unveil a memorial commemorating the event. The Battle of the River Plate took place 75 years ago and less than a dozen veterans are still alive from this, the only episode of the war to take place in South America.

  Cameron pays tribute to Falklands’ conflict dead and reaffirms Islanders right to self determination

  

  UK Prime Minister David Cameron has paid his own personal tribute to the 255 soldiers, sailors and airmen who gave their lives to liberate the Falkland Islands. Making his first visit to the national Armed Forces Memorial as Prime Minister, Cameron also reaffirmed his commitment to defend the Falkland Islanders' right to self-determination.

  Vulcan flypast at Falklands’ memorial in the Arboretum at Staffordshire

  

  A Vulcan bomber which launched air raids on Stanley Airport thirty years ago has flown over the peaceful countryside of central England to mark the dedication of a new Falklands Memorial to the 255 British servicemen and three women Islanders killed in the conflict.
