  Falklands‘ sovereignty: in UN letter, UK makes clear to Argentina its historical and legal position

  

  Last 14 January, the United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations addressed a letter to the Secretary-General. The letter, in accordance with instructions received from the UK Government, was to refer to the letter dated 30 December 2020 from the Permanent Representative of Argentina to the United Nations, addressed to the Secretary-General.

  Chilean president ratifies support for Argentina claims in the Falklands' dispute

  

  Chilean President Sebastián Piñera ratified his administration's support for “Argentina's sovereignty claims over the Falklands/Malvinas and other South Atlantic islands,” and called for Argentina and UK to resume talks to find a peaceful solution to the controversy in the framework of UN resolutions on the issue.

  Argentina is threatening a Falkland Islands team to play under the name “Islas Malvinas” or to pull out of an international competition, it has been claimed. Falkland Islands Badminton are vowing to “not give in to bullies” amid alleged tensions ahead of the Badminton Pan Am Male & Female Cup 2020, which is due to commence on Thursday.
