The Falkland Islands (pop. 4,000) produced one of the major shocks in the history of the International Island Games by trouncing the host Island Guernsey by 6-2 to win the Gold Medal in the 'Recurve Head to Head Team Knockout' at the 2023 Island Games.
Next week the Falklands Islands will be participating at the Island Games, to be held in Guernsey with twenty-four islands competing and running from July 8/14. Falklands is sending 76 athletes in ten teams, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Bowls, Swimming Shooting, Golf, Table Tennis, Cycling, and Football.
National Sports Council and Beauchene Fishing Co Ltd have jointly announced a generous funding package to support the Falkland Islands team for the Island Games in Guernsey next year.
