  Provincial elections in Argentina: ruling FdT wins only 1 province out of 4

  

  The opposition Together for Change (Juntos por el Cambio - JxC) celebrated three victories in provincial elections in Argentina on Sunday: Governor Gustavo Valdés of the UCR (a JxC member) celebrated in Corrientes, former Governor Alfredo Cornejo won the open primaries in Mendoza and looks poised to returning to the provincial helm later this year but in San Luis, former Governor Claudio Poggi shocked Governor Alberto Rodríguez Saa's candidate Jorge Fernández. On the other hand, the Peronist Frente de Todos (FdT) of President Alberto Fernández won by a landslide in Tucumán. Lieutenant Governor Osvaldo Jaldo became Governor-elect.

  Over 10% of the territory of the Argentine province of Corrientes (northeast) has been consumed over the past few days by fires that were caused intentionally, according to some video footage that went viral on social media.

  Macri celebrates victory of staunch ally in Corrientes province

  

  Argentina's ruling coalition of president Mauricio Macri celebrated on Sunday victory in the Corrientes province governor race, a significant boost a couple of weeks before the crucial midterm elections. Candidate Gustavo Valdés supported by “Let's Change” grouping won the Corrientes gubernational dispute with 54.06% of the votes.
