
Thousands of people are expected to gather this Tuesday in Plaza de Mayo and in Argentina’s major cities to mark the 50th anniversary of the March 24, 1976, military coup that installed a dictatorship responsible for thousands of forced disappearances and which, in its final stage, launched the Falklands War in a desperate bid to cling to power.

The Argentine Government of President Javier Milei Monday released a video on social media saying March 24, 2025, should be the “Day of Complete Memory” on the 49th anniversary of the Military Junta uprising headed by Lieutenant General Jorge Rafel Videla, marking the beginning of the self-appointed National Reorganization Process which ended up in the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas War and a return to democratic rule the following year.

Argentina's foreign ministry is releasing 'secret documents' related to the kidnapping and disappearance of the Swedish teenager Dagmar Hagelin in 1977 during the last military dictatorship, and which at the time crated a longstanding serious diplomatic rift between the two countries.

Two former Argentine dictators appeared in court Monday on charges of kidnapping hundreds of babies seized from political prisoners, minutes after birth. Ex rulers Jorge Videla and Reynaldo Bignone alongside with six other former military officers are involved in the court case that is expected to last until the end of the year.
