
Police in Northern Ireland on Wednesday charged a middle-aged man with the 2019 murder of journalist Lyra McKee, who was shot dead during rioting in the city of Londonderry.

A priest received a standing ovation at Lyra McKee's funeral when he asked why it took her death to unite politicians. Politicians attended a vigil in Londonderry after her murder, and also her funeral in Belfast on Wednesday.

The New IRA has admitted responsibility for the killing of 29-year-old journalist Lyra McKee, according to an Irish newspaper. In a statement given to The Irish News using a recognized code word, the group offered full and sincere apologies to her family and friends.
